The music here is exploding. Coltrane Coltrane is stronger than in that presaged the result with "A Love Supreme" is exceeded by Trane himself. Certainly, the fundamentals of music is modal Coltrane but leaves nothing hindered his musical expression. The "outputs" free are more numerous, but they never seem gratuitous or irrelevant. Améne Coltrane music where he wants it to be. "Chim Chim Cheree" seems to be a nod to "My Favorite Things" to indicate the progress. "Nature Boy", lyrical theme if ever there was, is exhausted by the master in a final version. "Brazilia" is all the songs present here the one that is closest to the aesthetics of pre-65 quartet but with a new urgency. "Song of Praise" magically worn by Jimmy Garrison, the link between "Lonnie's Lament" (on "Crescent") and the sublime "Dearly Beloved" (on "Sun Ship"). Coltrane, constantly elusive, already elsewhere when we think we have located. Always higher.
