Ben Webster is one of my favorite saxophonists. A far velvety soup. I'd definitely recommend.

The Warm Moods + Bbb & Co (CD)

Customer Review

Ben Benjamin .... as this "great love of melody" was born in 1909 in Kansas City, Missouri and off too soon in Amsterdam in 1973.
He began piano in two different orchestras after studying the violin. Then the father of Lester Young (WH Young) that will teach him the tenor saxophone. It will be part of many orchestras like the big-band Teddie Wilson, he joined Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Ellington returned home created its own training and so on.

What is most recognized is the "tenderness" and then why these quotes? His tenderness for boxes that unfolds like a fan in hot and cool breeze at a time; It blows the note more than he plays in the ballads on melting a highwayman.

CD is composed of two compression vinyls.

The first: "The Warm Moods" this sounds simple to translate and yet! I would gladly say, out literal translation is often far from the written thought, "The sublime breezes!"
With:
Ben Webster on tenor sax. Gene Di Novi piano.
Don Ragley on bass.
Frank Capp on drums and a string quartet led by Johnny Richard.
Go I put my helmet, it's live! This first vinyl consists of 12 short pieces will run your fingers !!! (In each room).

1) "The Sweetheart of Sigma Chi" Oh yes! these notes violas that start and Ben Webster takes us on scouring air, and then a gentle Schuffle Ben acceleration measured quickly returned to the nagging, the disc begins with heavy but so light with saxophonist! Listen to this song and soon, it's outside the norm. 2'27

2) "Stella By Starlight" a whole program ... Two key notes purposes, violas and Ben began seriously begin this piece with a calculated slowness to send us to the stars with languorous violins and piano, then as apnea piano comes with a reinforcement celesta * crystalline notes accompanied with violins and Ben Webster takes up a dream final at the ropes.
* Celesta: small upright piano keyboard and crystal short notes such glasses beaten with an iron rod. (Not to be confused with Celestamine, I know it's easy.) And then no, not everyone knows what a celesta! 3'03 in the stars.

3) "With Every Breath I Take" Alto deep, violins and piano Ben launched in a honeyed melody notes up to the most serious then give us his ballad chorus in a short piano will resume. The saxophone will explore here all the notes of the instrument of the most serious to the most acute. And it's beautiful! 3'06

4) "Accent On Youth" Piano and violins and bass begin on 20 "Ben will let us offer sumptuous notes on a fairly known music purists (am I? It's not for me to judge !) we can have the feeling that Ben Webster will not give way to the rest of his training. 3'01

YES 3'11

7) "Nancy" This is the celesta that began this piece, an instrument widely used in this drive. Ben Webster is at its peak, explores the serious to go suddenly look a very high note on his instrument, he is there leaves very little room for other instruments, just a little piano chorus, seconds, and resumes without losing breath in the sweet ballad that one ends the other instruments behind him. 3'13

8) "I'm Begenning to see the light" This is great, we! A wand on the foot of the Charleston and the orchestra is almost fifteen seconds for free and there Mr. Webster takes us directly to clarify that air well known. Follow your breath! Amazing! 2'48

9) "It Was So Beautiful" Violins and celesta smooth attack this choice morsel that Ben will interpret us mesmerizing way giving way to the piano for 26 "a feat! But the other instruments all have a place in this, again Once, wonderful ballad that aptly name! 3'25

10) "The Whiffenpoof Song" (A song for breath ...) So look! "Song for Guy"? The violins begin this melody and Webster gives us a ballad full of tenderness, a precious ballad I would say slightly mocking but still serious, you will find there! final with a violin pizzicato. 2'27

11) "It's Easy To Remember" Intro to the orchestra for ten seconds and then Ben flies into another ballad so easy to remember a few short moments for the piano, Ben walk us ballad ballad for our delight. It is the sign that the end violins. 3'12

12) "There's No You" Fiddler arises only then join the other strings and Ben nintervient 20 "after a walk and there for it is a shame! Leaving a little room for violins and piano at greater length here can (some) speak. Webster ends by getting away in the bass. 3'17

16) You Can not Tell The Difference When The Sun Goes Down Blues "Yes, I know! Then all the instruments work together saxophones dominate a bit but we are dealing with a big band when at 1'14 guitar Dave Barbour we made up a chorus 2'33 monitoring muted trumpet Shorty until 3'52 Ben Webster monitoring Benny Carter again accompanied by the orchestra to 5'14 and it is the turn of the piano Jimmy Rowles up to 6'30 and clarinet Barney Bigard enter into chorus supported by the piano and the guitar until 7'57 Ben Webster takes his turn also supported by piano and guitar until then ALL OPERATING 9'17 brass and wood (saxes) take over for a while and the whole band will complete this long fun time to 12'07.
