Better than TZ10!

After I had the Panasonic Lumix TZ10 tested extensively last year and at that time was not quite as happy with this (I chose for the Sony HX5V) I now had the opportunity to test the TZ18 extensively.

One in front, the TZ18 is definitely better than the TZ10.
Who can do without GPS, meets definitely the better choice with the TZ18.

The 2MP more (14MP at the TZ18, TZ10 12MP when) are now not necessarily decisive.
The larger zoom range (16x at the TZ18, TZ10 12x in) is a much more attractive, especially since the lens has consistently good imaging properties.

The overall quality impression of the camera is very good, consistently well made and a good feel.

The 3-inch display with 230,000 pixels is not particularly high resolution (since there is significantly more mitlerweile) but perfectly adequate.

The optical image stabilizer also works really well.

But now to the essence, the image quality (for me still the most important thing).

This is extremely good at the TZ18.
Very good color reproduction and excellent sharpness of detail, for my taste better than the TZ10.

The intelligent automatic program already makes for consistently good results.
Of course, can be personalized with manual settings, in one case or another, achieve better results.

But there are also some less good properties.

For this purpose, the noise performance from ISO 800 part, this rises here already visible to (but still ok).
And the HD video function is now also not particularly, a nice addition halt.

But I think you can live with.

Conclusion:

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ18 is a really good compact camera for the demanding "Normalfotografierer".
Consistently good quality in almost all areas.
Clear recommendation from me.
