This dongle has saved me. Once Apple has simply removed the IR receiver from the new MacBooks, the remote did not work anymore. App solutions are not an option for my purposes. The FLIRC you can easily install on the Macbook and already the old Apple Remote comes back. Still annoying, but the FLIRC worked within 1 minute, and you can specify which function you want to have on which key itself. Great thing.
