VAUDE Panniers Newport II (equipment)

Customer Review

I use the bag for the office. The wheel should I use in the S-Bahn to the workplace and radele every night the 35 km to the house. From the square I can an A5 ring binder, a pair of glasses, a small "first aid kit", my tool tool, a spare inner tube, a purse, my phone, my food and other small items, the you need, well accommodate. The space is enough in good weather and the bag is definitely more beautiful than an Ortlieb bag. (That's what I wrote after I am for the first time so went home.)

I wondered, however, after a short time, why the pocket here has so many positive reviews. They were the real reason why I just bought this bag. In retrospect, I realize that there many buyers / buyers is worth the money to have a well-styled pocket on the wheel. Other aspects probably tend to play a subordinate role. However, I was looking for a briefcase and no accessory for my bike. If you because even has a beautifully designed exterior, the better. Unfortunately, I overlooked that most reviews contain little information about the usability. Gone stupid.

My resume: The Newport is actually a narrow elongated everyday miserable constructed bicycle pannier on a small scale with a briefcase look without real interior layout and useful compartments, so do not fish nor fowl.

Daily use: Unfortunately, you have to be from time to time but the road to the purse, takes out a handkerchief or a candy bar. Then you realize that the bag has been developed by "outdoor desk perpetrators". The cover flap is held not only by 2 belts, but also needs to be opened and closed with a dinky but very on edge flaps around full zip. The bag is in the cover flap deep cut (why?) And the material is soft, so I do not 100%'m sure no minor things while crossing eg fall out of a trough, if I do not close the zipper. This detail brings users NULL, because every time the zipper must be completely open anyway to remove things. Is the bag well filled, you have to, as I experienced, even the impact of foreign meeting locations close the bags either cumbersome with the zipper, or the bags take in both arms and embrace with both arms and pressed close to your body, so do not as for me, but what slips out. Why Vaude has taken no ordinary briefcase as design example? Again and again make the company the catastrophic failure to construct products as intersections for several applications and therefore fall (or most buyers) in my experience on the abdomen. One can not produce meaningful combination of shopping bag and briefcase, for the practice requirements are very different.

On the bag itself sits under the flap nor a mesh pocket in which I, for example, a small helmet cover and 2 energy bars aufbewahre that I need in my somewhat more rapid procedure from time to time. Now, if you want in hypoglycaemia or incipient rain to the utensils, the zipper entangled in the fine mesh and when closing it is then sometimes even harder. In the office with the bag on the desk that folds fine, but if the bag mounted on the bicycle, and is well stocked and I, for example, stand on a forest road in the beginning of the rain, trying with one hand the wheel holding and with the other, the Zipper Zipper move, I get murder fantasies. Once the bag is filled and then also deformed or bulge, you need 3 hands. 1 hand lifts the bag bottom of hanging on the wheel bag slightly and pushes handle the soft front, the 2nd hand holding the flap so that the zipper can move freely and the 3rd hand pulls on rubber ring mounted on the extension of the zip pulls has been. Only the keychain for the office building, which is too heavy for your pocket to bring out the Vaude bag and to have only 2 hands is tedious. A small outer pocket that would not even be waterproof, pocket would have done well. S-Bahn, in the morning, the bike is good and tight, the bag hanging on the racks - is still missing the eBook reader. Both belts per click lock solved the recalcitrant zipper also goes this time, but immediately, the soft pocket bulges forward and offers all passengers the best view of my pocket contents, individually now trickle Glasses, e-reader, lunch box and Fruit Bar on the compartment floor - all in a hurry to admit in his pocket - the zipper does not work, because the bulge is now too big - bag closed with two straps. Now you go to get off's - which slips as from his pocket? The Phone! If I had only 15 minutes trying to get into the rocking track to close the zipper. If Vaude a drawstring had at least built into the top of the deeper cut side, you could bag the content compress slightly. You have to set up the pocket so that the pocket center slightly infected, which may slip and thereby bulge then the front. They want the pocket, too can close. Pack house and yard gate key and cycle to the S-Bahn, jacket pack in your pocket, take out an eBook reader. if necessary, wrap ticket control in the S-Bahn and purse removal eBook reader, get out, stop at the bakery, take purse, store, rausholen key for corporate mailbox, see post, pack in the pocket, the cycle 300 meters to the office key for entrance door and gather every time ..... click locks open / close and open / close zipper.

Update after 3 weeks of daily use (35 km / day): Last night I was at 22:00 clock with the wheel in front of my courtyard gate in the dark, trying 10 minutes !!!, refer to the Court and flat key pocket. Once again, the fine mesh of the outer bag had gewurschtelt in the zipper of the cover flap. It was a tug of war and a fumbling and only after a use of force was the zipper on. Who knows how to be very fast ride feels after 1.5 hours, my annoyance can imagine. I'll now the power stick, festtackern or sew, because you can not always use them properly, the mesh pocket on the bag surface. It is in the evening after work with friends off the raincoat wants to pack into the bag and then the zipper already hooked again, you call "already goes in front of it!" and kneeling in front of the wheel or the pocket. I get always sooooo a neck, as the saying goes. Once this power construct contains anything without being thereby bulging, it tends to become entangled in the zipper. I am annoyed by the Vaude bag only. If cyclists they even open and close at home and then possibly do the same in the office and take a little, the bag may well be reasonably usable. Only when the problems with the bag falls to me how many times a day do I open a bag and close.

I do not get it, why not test this bag Vaude weeks before a series production by 2 or even under real conditions can be tested and, for example, something wrapped in the mesh pocket, then one of the problems would be noticed immediately. I would like to be prepared to pay a few euros more, if I would get a really functional pocket. So far, the case of mine had received 3 stars, now it gets only 1. Since the bag is designed for everyday use and I paid 90 euros for it, I have other demands on the practicability. If I checked in the train, I do not want to kneel 2 hours to the compartment base, have the nervous inspectors in the back and rumnesteln to the bag before I can get my monthly ticket vorweise. Once you have the bag full and it bulges at the front, the opening / closing of the bag is a game of patience. For outdoor equipment has the functionality for me priority over style. I do not ask that I can send to the pocket SMS, but that they can do what you expect from a bag in the price range: including well and quickly open and close can, otherwise I could also an Aldi carrying bag attach rubber tensioners on the luggage rack. Every time you want to the bag contents, the two belts must be opened and then again around the zipper, and then everything has to be closed again. I had the bag now at a meeting with and I must confess that Raaaaatsch and click-click bugging me now, when I need to quickly to the bag contents. Yes, I know, but it is currently terribly cool, rumzufahren open Ortlieb bags and hanging down straps, but I would rather be sealed bags. It is a stupid solution to provide a cover flap on a pocket with a zipper and with 2 snap fasteners. It would have been enough to fix the flap with 2 snap fasteners and put the zipper on top of the pocket under the cover flap.
Why Vaude a bag constructed that simply is inside only two parts and then the comic mesh pocket and on the back has a huge bag whose mystery remains. I did not get the chance, somewhere such as infecting a pen. Even simple briefcases have an adjustable Velcro interior layout, why not the Vaude? If I need something from his pocket, it is every time an endless search and can then concedes the whole bag content from to find the phone, for which there is no insertion pocket !!! You have a meeting and then you sit at the table and stacked to the amusement of the conference participants, the lunch box, the tempo, the spare inner tube, the iPad, the bag of nuts .... on the meeting table to rummage for the pin. The really big volume of the bag can not be used because in the 2 subjects everything crisscross flying and the pocket (except back) bulges through the very soft material without any reinforcement immediately. In my briefcase I pack for example on my glasses case on my vertically upright ring binder above and holds it. When Vaude I have problems to move the ring binder to stand, let alone, then what to pack it.

The bag is the same as with most Vaude products: all seem like hush hush designed on a sketchpad and implemented immediately. I am sometimes several weeks with the wheel above the Arctic Circle on the way and the bag Confirm my previous experience with Vaude products (tents, jackets, panniers) on these tours: Stay away, the stuff of Vaude's usually what people who like to drive Hollandrad with baskets on the handlebars, keeping Vaude jackets for waterproof, the push to small MTB helmet as possible from his forehead, have the handlebar at eye level and tilted slightly with swayback backward wobble on a giant saddle sitting the bike paths long.

While the case almost looks like a briefcase, but functionally it has with a briefcase / laptop bag as much similarity as an Ortlieb-transport bag. The strap of the bag was just harebrained designed to look like the bag itself. If I adjust the strap to my body size corresponding length (as the strap is also supplied), sits the buckle to belt adjustment exactly on top of the shoulder and thus does not fit in the supporting pad which is placed Velcro to the strap. If the zipper at the opening of the bag itself and not on the cover, you might let the belt off and stow under the flap. Thus, the belt must always be off and clamped (and thus open the bag and close) and flies to the voluminous upholstery additionally around in your pocket. Of the difficulties with the "entanglement" of the hooks on the straps during take them from the belts also report other reviewers.

The fact that they at the bottom does not hook, the pocket (curb) as a wing collapsed while driving at any unevenness side up and then rumbles back to the porter. When after 2 weeks look at the back wall of the bag, already falling on the first friction points of the carrier bars. Now it's enough for me. I dispose of this Vaude-misconstruction in the yellow bin, looking for me then but something better.

Stylish alone is not enough for me for everyday life. . The company Abus has brought me in Internet searches with the concept of their older model of Urban Tote combination on an idea: A proper briefcases in a bike bag: I have now compared before and extent'm going to maybe some Ortlieb Office Buy -Bag and attach firmly to the rack and then put it back my normal really nice briefcase in the Ortlieb - Ortlieb as the transport and rain cover - a great approach. At last my beloved briefcase and no longer this labbrige Vaude-misconstruction.

(Update: Now I have the two Abus Urban bought bags - it is a permanently mounted on the wheel and the briefcase (with no hooks) is then transported to the permanently mounted but this I had at the fixed mounted pocket the supplied hook (scrap). replace Ortlieb hook with rail While it was ne little tinkering, but now it is good, the briefcase of Abus itself is great -.. overly good disposition with all possible plug-in and zip pockets, notebook division, they can look very sophisticated and well finished and you sees that someone has given some thought to clickable strap etc. .... I'm excited.)
