So far, I was assuming that you buy quality goods with Kingston, as I had previously made very good experiences with memory modules and other sticks.
This stick, however, has taught me a lesson.
The DataTraveler 101 G2 16GB takes forever to be recognized by a PC. Especially if Windows 7 is installed. I have tested the stick on two notebooks with Win7 Professional and two computers with Windows XP for two weeks. The file system does not matter, because I had to stick with NTFS and then formatted with FAT32.
In Windows 7, the drive requires almost exactly 30 seconds to be detected, which is a catastrophic value. And only when it is recognized at all. In many cases it is also not recognized at all or fails after 30 seconds before to format the drive.
In Windows XP, the key has been detected more quickly, but nothing has changed for me.
The stick is therefore returned soon from me, data loss is so far spared luckily me.
PS:
I've noticed that the 1-star reviews relate almost exclusively to the 16 and 32 GB versions of the DataTraveler 101 G2. However, these are mixed with the 4 and 8 GB reviews what the very good overall result declared.
I would suggest Amazon, the evaluation of this product (16GB) not by the good reviews all other products (4GB, 8GB, etc) to falsify!
