It should prove to be a long-term task to find united in one headset these points. Despite the countless makes and models out there, it seems this is not so easy to fall off, to get everything together.
But first to the Logitech G35:
Before I could throw myself extensively in the headset looking, I had the G35 are already under the Christmas tree. The joy was great, because I have read about the model previously some promising reviews.
For exterior:
The G35 feels extremely valuable and robust. No Gehäuseknarzen or inappropriate clatter while moving. It consists mainly of a rubbery plastic that feels very soft and comfortable. The buttons have a very good tactile feedback and have a comfortable size. The hightlight for me was immediately the volume roller on the left ear cup. No fummeliges Search in the dark by the regulator on the cable. Top! The broad Micro is nice and short, sturdy and stable slides up and down. It will not work like a foreign body has been retrofitted, but has been integrated into the overall design. Very nice. It is flexible and can be adjusted according to deployment well before the mouth. Another highlight that not every headset: the folding of Micros is deactivated at the same time. 5 of 5 stars
Comfort:
At first, it sits very tight on the head clamp! After an hour I was hurting the jaw and you had to change something, the position on the ears. But after a few weeks and some "stretching" diminishes the pressure and you would not notice during extended use. The large ear cups carry their remaining in it. As well as the generously dimensioned headband and ear pads. The ears are completely enclosed. The shield to the outside and the closed design is exemplary. It's a matter of taste but I want to be shielded as possible during gaming. With the G35 you hear nothing from his environment. Toll! 4 of 5 stars.
Technology / Sound:
So spectacular is "7.1 surround sound" for headphones also read, I realized that this construction brings some disadvantages. First and foremost: the weak and oversteering Bass. The G35 developed not begin to pressure the rich depths of as my old 15-Euro-Sharkoon Rush. Even on the extensive Logitech Soundmenu acknowledge the speakers the force of basses with ugly oversteer and creak. The design-related explanation is so logical: of course, five small speakers per shell does not develop the same volume as one or 2 speakers. The advantages of this design lie somewhere else. As the name suggests, the G35 pampers the ears with an excellent surround sound. Rear Left, right, behind me sounds can be accurately tracked from different directions. Amazing that you have yet still "only" headphones on. In addition, a good balance between bass and midtones.
It is as always a matter of taste: If you want to during gaming and watching movies Hollywood standard which get on the ears or you want a clear soundscape covering the many details. The latter is more suited to the G35. I personally prefer the former.
In addition, I would say if you have a dedicated sound card in the computer, the G35 with its own sound chip and USB connection is always the wrong choice. The headset is recognized as a second sound card. So you wasted the potential of the actual sound card. 3 of 5 stars.
Problems / shortcomings:
Weak bass was still satisfied with the overall package or not I used the G35 and happy and every day. But now we come to the reason why the G35 is no longer in my possession.
What has cost me a lot of time in forums and support sites, were the little sound problems that I could not solve all the way to the end. Again and again sporadic short "pops and clickers" from the speakers. But even in some games. Sounds first not particularly problematic in the long run but it was annoying because the otherwise clear sound was always "contaminated". In addition, some film or games sounds distorted sporadic although the depths Been runtergeregelt. To recite at this point not hundreds of postings: I have these problems solved but not quite able to contain. But could never quite determine if it was a hardware or software problem.
In addition, some games were evidently not quite cope with the surround profile of the G35. Sodas to manually switch regularly from surround to stereo, or even had to turn it off via the driver 2 of 6 "satellite". A bit uncomfortable.
But the main reason for the separation after 4 months from the G35: on both sides broke the plastic on the inside of the hinges, so after further use of the earcups would break sooner or later from the bracket. Despite stable appearance and construction (4 screws on each side!) The material so tired after short use. For the price category is an absolute no-go. In addition, my old Sharkoon not nearly as wertig but after 5 years is still quite.
So back to the part. At this point the outstanding Complaints procedure Amazon is once again to emphasize. Service as always top! Free return and sent immediate refund. Exemplary!
The Replacement:
Even though I was basically happy with the G35, I would not take the risk again. So I set out on a quest worthy yet, better successor. Now it has become an ASTRO A40. I save another sweeping review of the new headset. Just this: the charge for G35 of nearly 60Euro it is absolutely worth it. Although it is a stereo headset is "only", the surround sound is not a whit worse and intense bass worlds. Brilliant sound at all frequencies, great design and best processing. All criteria that I have listed at the beginning, are met. "Only" the semi-enclosed design could still be to my taste "closed". But that is as always a matter of taste.
Before the decision in favor of the ASTRO A40 has fallen, I have dug myself through the following candidates. Why these have failed for me, I do not want to hide from you. As I said, were the reasons that did not meet my expectations.
