Addendum:
With the new firmware version 9.150 (available on HOME since 5.9.2010) are fixed several flaws:
1) The chief defect: no planning option "without highway" is resolved.
There is now a reasonable route planning tool (probably from the old XL). To be able to fastest (as before), but also the shortest path without highway, cyclists, pedestrians, etc. Set. The tool "without highway" goes well, I've tried it at length yesterday.
2) You can leave POI (Points of Interest) on the map. The most important thing: a detailed list you can choose which POI (gas stations, parking, ...) should be displayed. This avoids the vollmüllen the map with unnecessary points, in the worst case with advertising (my first fear).
3) There is now an automatic night mode enter (not tried).
Unfortunately, it remains at the 4 points for the following defects:
1) Still too low maximum volume: At high speeds or with (moderate) music the message is often not clearly audible.
2) The built-in memory (2GB) is much too small for map updates. I have the Europe (42 country) version, and already the update for Central Europe is about 2,4GB big. First, I want my Eastern European countries to keep (so I bought Europe 42), secondly, are not even the full 2GB of cards available, as well as space for voices, etc. needed. Therefore rational map updates are connected almost impossible and with a lot of trouble and risk (see various hotel reviews). TomTom should finally take the pair EUR in the hand and installing 4GB (3GB chips are not there). But probably makes the impossible to the system architecture.
The (free) firmware update via HOME went with me without problems (please be careful).
CONCLUSION: The use value of the XL2 increases greatly with the new firmware, probably about the status of the old XL. The principal shortcomings of the XL family (too little memory, often sound too quiet) persist.
