Haptics / facilities:
The case is very well in my large hand, I find it a bit grippy than the D7000.
The feel fit and the housing makes a valued and well-made impression.
The camera's dust and splash proof and all connections are sealed with solid rubber caps.
The buttons and controls have a clearly defined pressure point and feel solid.
The rear 3.2 "screen is really great and allows for a direct focus on-site assessment, not least because it is finally possible to switch with a button in the 100% view.
It strikes me as something brilliant front than the previous generation.
Some people may be missing a folding screen that is now found in many DSLR and system cameras.
Wherein a folding screen but also in many places of the reputation that it lags in the "semi-professional class" has no place and is a Ausstattungsgimmick the beginners class.
No matter how it is, I can live well with the fixed display and who needs a folding screen so has the opportunity to choose the Nikon D5200.
Very good is also the possibility to insert 2 SD cards simultaneously (had the D7000 already) to save as JPEG and RAW on different SD cards.

Autofocus / Steering:
The viewfinder is nice and big, clear and hell.Desweiteren can be the indicators in the viewfinder read very well.
The basic operation has not changed compared to the great Nikon D7000, which I welcome because it is very well thought out.
A significant improvement to the D7000 is the AF of the D7100 now reached the professional class.
In total, there are now 51 focal areas with 15 cross-type sensors, which are well distributed in the viewfinder area and not only in the central region.
In initial experiments, I have found that the AF real grip very fast and reliable, especially with fast-moving objects.
Especially in low light situations, I can state a marked improvement and the AF is very reliable.
In Live View via the display of the autofocus is quite fast, but still not as fast as for example the Sony's with fixed mirror.
So rather well suited for quiet objects like macros in Action Photos I use the viewfinder anyway.
The shutter sound seems to me now a little quieter than its predecessor, ideal for discrete photos such as in the church at weddings.
-------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------
Image Quality:
The Sensor resolution is 24.1 Mp, which is quite a lot.
I had only my fears, the partly somewhat older lenses with this high resolution not cope.
But that did not come true and I can not complain, the results are first class.
Even with the cheap Nikon 18-105VR the results are really good.
Of course, the image results with higher-quality glass may be even better.
Advantage of the 24 MP high resolution is the gain of the finest details.
In the 100% view I entdenke details that I have not seen before, besides you have ample room to cut at 24 MP the images and to choose the right image area.
The results are brilliant and I am very satisfied, the noise is very low even at high ISO speeds and the sharpness of the pictures is fine, perhaps a bit is because the no AA filter is installed.
-------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------
Video function
The video function I have been testing shortly and the results were very good.
Strangely, it seems to me the moire lower than other Nikon cameras although no AA filter was installed and thus the Moire would actually be higher.
Really great and I'm going to use the video function now frequently.

Conclusion:
On the whole, the D7100 is not a revolution, but an evolution of class very good D7000.
For me personally, some very useful things have been added, such as the 100% view by pressing a button, great video mode, faster AF, handier housing.
I can safely recommend the camera so and will have lots of fun with her.
On occasion I will add my review as the D7100 beats on time;)

* Edit * 03.04.2013
Here's a first small update
Battery performance is similarly powerful as in the D7000.
In normal use Photo 1000 pictures are possible with one battery charge approx.
With occasional lightning and LiveView I came to a little over 500 images.
The 1,3Crop video function with increased frame rate like me, ideal for scenes by editing program to convert to slow motion sequences.
After a little adjustment of image parameters very appealing JPEGs OCC are possible
If you're planning any Raw images are necessary or do not have time to Rawbearbeitung.
Of course, the results are better by Raw, just the shadow areas have remarkably high reserves in the post.
The accuracy and precision of the AF's constant source of delight.
I am still very happy with the D7100.
