Admittedly, the VS has a very round mouthfeel, with soft fruit flavors, but I liken it to a good rum, this is here but taste, smell and aromenarm - you really have to tidy up for air through the nose in order to smell something, and the good wine can be long in the mouth, what to taste. As is the Brandy de Jerez, which I still have on the shelf, the Hennessy VS but a good step ahead.
Ultimately, I have not even bought it for the pure pleasure, but for cocktails that call for cognac, as the classic "Sidecar".
1 1/2 oz cognac
1 oz Cointreau
1/2 oz lime juice
Combined, the gentleness of the Hennessy VS does quite well - and again confirmed that at cocktails, the whole is more than the sum of its parts.
From the presentation here I am, however, delighted - a very nice, elegant bottle, great label design and a very representative, stable carton make this Cognac to a matching gift for anyone who can appreciate the decency of a Cognac, unlike me.
