The cleaning is very easy. They need only to open it fully. (See video). This facilitates an enormously during cleaning.
As can be seen in the video, the flap does not close completely. It can be seen a small gap between the toilet and the door. But this does not bother me. In my other cat litter box was exactly the opposite is true. The door jammed constantly with the toilet. I would have the door a little grind for fear the cat could not get out.
The issue of odors is not so easy to answer. The odor is hanging primarily from cat litter and the food from, so there may be a slight smell even at this toilet.
