Who is looking for an "Internet radio" and this would dispense with a traditional PC, will certainly have to look around once in the still quite thin stocked market. Here one stumbles inevitably about the "IP-Radio" DNT. After a short research speaks some point for this device: The "IP-Radio" has an acceptable appearance on, supports both wireless LAN and a wired network (with or without () DHCP!) And (WLAN including WPA2 protocol.!) consumes around 3 watts in standby mode. The latter is a "Internet radio" quite little. The "IP-Radio", the formats Real Audio, WMA, MP3, AAC, AU, WAV, OGG (!) And AIFF decode and support as an audio stream protocols both [...] as well as RTSP and MMS. In addition, a remote control is and this at a cost of well below 100 EUR. This gives cause for optimism.
Then you simply put the device, you would first point out that the piano black finish really "only" an appearance is. As a provider for the list of Internet radio stations sets the device - like most competitors also - on Reciva ([...]) that there are enough channels (for Germany over 1200) with current addresses. Access is quick and easy with the rotary multi selector. Unfortunately, the blue backlit display is often not. The display is relatively slow, so that with the title display a slight judder is from the soft scrolling. Even otherwise, the IP Radio slower than the Freecom MusicPal Wireless Internet Radio.
A pretty bad impression left by the individual 6cm speakers. The sound quality is lousy. One would do well, just an additional, active speakers (!) - A 3.5mm headphone output with 15mW output line is available - to budget for. Alternatively, the device can be connected via the also existing line-out output to a stereo system.
As thick minus point first appears the "volatile" memory: When the device is disconnected from the power, the settings (including time and network.) Obviously lost. In reality, the network settings are retained and the device requires only one (automatically carried out) the second attempt to be back online. If the device is reconnected to the Internet, is also solves the problem with the time. Obviously, an automatic synchronization with servers on the Internet takes place.
A big drawback is with my device the clearly audible noise at the internal speaker when external speakers are used. The internal speaker is not shut down properly. The Noise appears however only when using the LAN connection. The manufacturer dnt whose German support has responded quickly and friendly, proceeds from a fault in the hardware and immediately offered to replace equipment with acquisition of postage. The exchange is from my side yet.
UPDATE:
The above exchange went smoothly. The German Support would almost alone a reason to buy the device. The new device works without objection. The noise is gone. Unfortunately I can not subsequently change the assignment of the stars in this review. The unit would otherwise receive 4 stars.
Conclusion: With a little more care and a reasonable increase in production and hence the cost for the customer DNT could easily bring a much better device on the market. But functionality, service and support are really good. The support is very friendly.
Quite apart from this, there is no - depending on the requirements set - alternatives. Some examples: The "Freecom MusicPal Wireless Internet Radio" does not support the Real Media format, the TerraTec Noxon iRadio Network audio player is prone to frequent crashes, the Revo Pico WiFi Internet Radio does not have LAN port and the Logitech Squeezebox Wireless Internet Radio does not support UPnP (does not bother me) and is almost three times as expensive.
