TOP ORIGINAL REVIEW:
I want to improve my fitness and thought to myself, as a tracker could be very good to get a rough idea how much I am improving. I then read the reviews and some trackers was at the end of the opinion, the Withings Pulse would be the best for me. Decisive was the presence of an app (there is for iOS and Android) and an API for the event that other fitness apps, the data might want to evaluate.
The price was certainly decisive because he does (thanks to an exhibit of a market dealer) was considerably below the MSRP.
The device is delivered in a small box that contained the fitness tracker, a very short USB charging cable, a silicone holder with clip for attachment to clothing, the Quick Start Guide and a sofa bracelet (in neon-orange :)). In preparation I had already installed the free Withings app for my phone and the device is approximately as follows:
You press the only button on the unit, then turns on the tracker and a BT connection investigated. After that was done, the app went either by itself or on I started it, I know that, unfortunately, no longer as accurate. Subsequently, the device is recognized by the app and a firmware update loaded. (Thus, it now has the exact same features as the more expensive Withings Pulse O2, but more on that later). Last but not least I was able to get into the app still open an account for Withings fitness portal.
Yes exactly, without the Portal makes the device do not really mind, maybe it does not work at. For the typical German who is afraid of data leeches and for hours breaks at each app's head about why these permissions have to be all, the device is therefore really nothing! :-) But I do not mind and so it goes on now.
When switching on an already clear: The blue tack-sharp font, which can be seen on all product photos, the part has not. In reality, everything is presented in slightly blurred white lettering! But there's point deduction and a ticket with Withings. I'm curious what the say so.
The operation of the device is actually quite simple. You have to wear only with you, either in the silicone holder or simply in your pocket and it is one of the steps, the distance covered value and even the altitude. Every 6 hours, the data synchronized with the mobile app, as long as the cell phone is nearby, and from there it goes to the fitness portal where you can look at everything and can evaluate. There you can also set its goals, such as 10,000 steps per day, or 8 hours of sleep. A nice touch, perhaps gimmick, but for me it is good to see how to improve from day to day and its set goals coming closer. It will store a data history that you can watch for the last days by wiping across the screen with your finger.
The sleep test works like this: You press the button on the device so often, can be seen until the display shows a heart and a moon and then press on the moon. Then you can start the sleep mode and store the device in sleep bracelet and attach this on your wrist. You wake up, so you press on the option in the device to end the sleep mode. In the app and the website you can watch then, as long as you awake, was in light sleep and deep sleep. That's very interesting to see.
Are pressing the button on the device so often, to see until the display shows a heart and a moon: The display of the heart rate and the time available with the latest firmware display of blood oxygen content (actually originally more expensive the "Pulse O2" reserved) works so and then presses on the heart. Then Considering a finger on the sensor on the back of the tracker and waits. It looks like the finger is illuminated and the heartbeat and the blood oxygen content is then determined on the basis of reflection. The heartbeat can indeed so perhaps are very well established, but the oxygen concentration in the blood indicate I think is a joke. Well, yes, at least nothing cost. The downside is obvious, you have to the device from the holder may take for these measurements, which of course is pretty stupid.
That was until here my impression of the Withings Pulse on the first day. On the second something happened that I no longer liked so. I was traveling with the tracker in your pocket and wanted to see how much I had made steps times. Unfortunately, the display did not activate, even though the battery was well charged. (As I recall, he was at 76% charge remaining when leaving the house). When I returned home, I tried unsuccessfully to get help on the Internet. It always is, when the display of the device is no longer concerned, one should press the button for 15 seconds to reset. This works for me but only sometimes (!) When I have connected a charger to the device. Then it seems to be back to normal until the screen goes blank again and then it will not do again. Thought it might have been because the BT LE connection to the phone was gone, without logging out correctly when the phone went to the ultra-power-saving mode due to low remaining battery (Sony calls it Stamina). So I had the BT-coupling deleted on the phone and wanted to start from scratch. However, it is now possible the display of the damned Trackers no longer turn on and produce no BT-coupling more. Have now opened another ticket at Withings and hope which still occurs to something helpful. Otherwise I have to return the device and it is probably no more Withings.
