With impatience I expect this edition (the output of which was repeatedly delayed for technical reasons) ...
I had always cherished the hope of reaching such a project that would finally unite consistently the various publications fragmented, scattered, chaotic to say the "messy" from different publications and collections of editions of the ramparts, and the Mickey log (note in passing that such an undertaking would also be welcome regarding the flash gordon Dan Barry, especially in the early years).
It is indeed here an anthology, not a full, it's better than nothing (repeat) ... And according to the title of this book, an anthology that starts from the 50s (this makes a round number, but obscures the previous years, alas!) ...
This edition is sober (all black cover), but beautifully made.
Unfortunately (as I had read before on a old comic enthusiasts forum), choosing to six bands by 4 boxes on a page is
no more enlightened, as the boxes are ridiculously miniature: a challenge for presbyopic of France and Navarre! Without going to an alternative purist, which would have been a landscape format, it would have been nice to find a balance in the allocation of these bands that despite the choice of publisher (respect the original strips ) offers us "without breathing" continuously, the mandrake adventures (without a blank page via eg between different stories) ...
The absence of color (always respect the original strips) accentuates this impression of embarrassment and monotonous reading ...
Best of all: there is no preface, no history, no indication nor distingo on the fact that this daily strips, not sundays strips (another anthology would be welcome) ...
Too bad ... Too bad, yet it was a beautiful initiative ... We can always hope that one day for another project (Flash Gordon Dan Barry?) This editor (or another) gratifies us to a real nice full worthy of the name ...
PS: After reading more approndie, I just realize - and this is an unpardonable crime to my senses - that some stories are certainly garbled or incomplete, for best example on page 68 for "the anniversary of Mandrake! "we pass from 6-16 to 6-25 strip ... On the one hand it jumped out at me because I knew perfectly this story (first childhood memory), but mostly because at this stage of history, anyone can experience an inconsistency in the narration (that is not an ellipse, is a maelstrom!)
The announcement should include edition 240 pages, in fact it has undergone a final since, slimming treatment, the book features more than 186 pages ... now I understand why.
So, I removed the stars in my review ... This edition is only the "Daube" and nothing less than a total of foutage mouth ... But what may well motivate assholes like to start work on such publishing projects? If they had at least the intelligence before producing anything consult (forums) the notice of true amateurs !!!
It's unfortunate to write, but ... ESPECIALLY DO NOT BUY IT!
PS PS (latest addition has posteri):
I'm still a good player (or masochistic), hoping that publishers have somewhat rectified their fire for the second volume to come: I still buy more ...
