Not as good as everyone says here

Hello There,
This was my first Fiskars ax. Unlike many here, I have to say that the ax that has arrived with me, was not as sharp as I'm used to it from a good ax or a good ax. It was rather the opposite is true, I found it rather dull.

The advantage of this ax is quite clear that it is contrary to good quality Beilen of materials which start at a lack of care little to rust / rot and therefore provide hardly require maintenance. The lack of sharpness gets in this product also not extremely noticeable, as would be the case with a big ax, because with this ax anyway no tree trunks etc. shares, but only for small wood fire prepared etc. Therefore, the lack of focus here really would be no big deal, but have been nice ...

The ax is really pleasant top-heavy, has a very durable handle (even if it is hollow), and can be explained by its really small dimensions (about 23 cm) well attach to the backpack, etc. (or in this stowing). Attaching the ax also does not interfere appreciably, because with a weight of 480 grams (with only about 80 grams falling on the stem) rocks the ax not noticeably uncomfortable back and forth, since they now times as it makes sense, its holder has at the head end. The rear flat part of the ax is very small. Apart from the fact that I would fundamentally never recommend someone to use an ax as a hammer (because this Axtköpfen usually do not good), it is also very difficult in this Produnkt, since the combination between smaller target area and strong heaviness not just leads to easy handling.

So much everything first fully okay, for an ax this size. It really needed in my view no improvements in the items listed above by me, because for the tasks for which it is intended, the functionality is sufficient.

What, however, already bothers me is that processing of the handle on the ax head. Because here encloses the handle material the ax head. This means that the handle can never be replaced and that when splitting to large pieces of wood or sometimes carelessness the connection between the head and handle may be damaged, as there exists an edge between ax head and handle wrapping, against the to be split can chop wood. So I would have been much prefer an interchangeable handle.

Also in terms of environmental friendliness of the production of this ax, it is of course miles behind Gränsfors Bruks-products that produce their materials from recycled metal and environmentally friendly logging. Who does not bother it, is operated relatively well with this ax, and must not be afraid here to purchase a product that is not up to the tasks that could be put to such a small hatchet.

Conclusion:
The price / performance ratio is okay and the ax does, as long as it is used for simple tasks (eg. B. thicker branches that process and in small firewood snippets etc.) solid services that better go out of hand, as such . B. with a Bushcraft Knife. Chop right tree trunks I would not like to this small, blunt ax, which is a job that you (hopefully of course) other, imaginary for should be left axes.

There are the same size and weight significantly better (and greener) Hatchets, but in this small remit, the so a hatchet can cover, the question arises whether triple price it is well worth then the z. T.. If it does not depend on the price, I would recommend better hatchets, but when it comes to get a solid price / performance ratio in the low-budget range, I can thoroughly recommend the Fiskars X5 with the noted limitations.
