Performance and battery life good - Service of HP deficient

I have used this tablet for a good 2 weeks in use. It is mainly used for office applications and Web. For games, there is a desktop PC, but a tablet is generall not a good choice in my opinion. Basically, I am satisfied with the tablet and will probably keep it even. Nevertheless, there are some points that should be mentioned and perhaps for one or the other potential buyers are more important than for me. You have that at this price compromise is clear. I also still have a Microsoft Surface RT which I have a good comparison, since it quasi the in-house "Windows flagship tablet" is.

To keep things a little clearly I try to list each item:

POSITIVE:
+ The CPU performance is more than adequate for my purposes. Even simple games should run smoothly. Only hardcore gamers are likely to bring to sweat the Quad Core. The Omni 10 will boot to the login screen in just 15 seconds.
+ Battery life is very good for a tablet with Atom processor: I reach the promised almost 8,5h runtime for Web and Office.
+ Through the soft-touch finish on the back of the tablet has a very good feel and fits securely in your hand. The arrangement of the volume control like it and is easily accessible.
+ Resolution and viewing angles of the display are very good.
+ An 8MP autofocus digital camera you rarely find in a tablet, but here already. The photos are relatively good.

NEUTRAL or "not so good, but you can accept":
o cover for SD card slot is very "tricky"
o Locating connectors (mUSB, mHDMI, power) and the speaker on the bottom can cause problems in the use of a case or stand
o charging cable with only very brief 1m
o Charging time when fully discharged battery almost 3h (the charger only delivers 1.5A)
o mUSB socket is rectangular (USB Host), this does not recognize the same as the plug must be plugged
o "only" Windows 8.1 standard, which lacks some network functions in relation to the Pro version. In the pre-installed Office is the Home and Student 2013 version - Outlook and Access are missing here!
o 2GB of RAM for a tablet, which can also run x86 programs from the desktop, a bit tight.
o of the installed 32GB eMMC storage are free just under 12GB to install Office, and all updates. This should be noted in fairness v. Manufacturers.
o no NFC.

Negative and in total 1 star deduction:
- Unnatural color display ("yellow tinge"). I have to calibrate a colorimeter to the display fortunately.
- The touch screen responds, especially in the corners and edge areas, very inaccurate. Often one has to multiply so that the tap input is detected. Is particularly pronounced this behavior when using a screen protector and the Omni 10 is almost unusable.
- So far I could not persuade Stylus for proper co-operation with the Tablet.
- Every now watching the tablet from sleep no longer on, then the only solution is a hard reset.
- The cord is very very shaky in the charging socket - how long the center pin withstands the questionable. Therefore, I stir it better not to depend on wenns charging cable. Update: now occur before the expected contact problems (charging works unreliable)
- The capacitive Windows button does not respond accurately, sometimes does not recognize touch. The haptic feedback is delayed.
- The margin has fallen significantly too wide. Even with my large hands I can with both thumbs difficult to achieve that lie towards the middle letter in the (shared) On-Screen Keyboard.
- On the left side, the display sits much lower in the case whereby a tactile, protruding edge is formed.

Yet another star deduction is available for HP for their support and marketing:
- Defective Product description, advertised but nonexistent product features.
- Long response time of support, promised feedback does not take place.
- Very poor availability, even in their own online shop.
- No driver packages for download.
- Contrary to the description no USB cable included.
- Accessories overpriced (20 euros protector, stand 40 euros).

To illustrate: Because I travel a lot (partly even in critical lighting conditions) wanted to use the tablet I was very pleased about two (on the product page from HP, so the manufacturers themselves !!!) advertised features: an LED flash for the back Camera and a non-glare (ie matt) anti-glare display. After unpacking, I have been amazed, because both were not available or did not correspond to the facts: An LED on the back there is not, and the display is a great place to use as a mirror. Then I contacted HP and consulted. Apart from an automatic confirmation e-mail came back nothing. After another contact (complaints management) me a speedy response was assured - to this day I am still waiting!
Also the technical support I had contacted. I wanted to install on the device Windows 8.1 Professional. Therefore, I have asked if a download is provided with appropriate drivers or all devices (WiFi, touchscreen, etc.) are recognized by Windows during installation. In a tablet that's not self-evident and if eg the WLAN connection is not working you can also re-install any drivers on Windows Update -> chicken and egg problem ;-) Well, this question is now only a week ago .. ,
I hope I never come to accept the HP Support to complete, such as a device defect in the situation. Unfortunately, I had not researched before buying on this point, because as my experiences are almost the rule in HP.

Update 31.12.2013: After another month with the machine there are some things that I have to report. Meanwhile, intervene after repeated, finally feedback HP is done. Well, the explanations are meager: the LED flash it should have been a translation error, although it is unclear to me what's on "LED-flash" matter of interpretation or ambiguity. On the product photos, it has now also the area around the camera (white ring) so retouched it now is also beyond doubt that there is no light / flash. And the statement "glare-free" refers allegedly only on the display itself. But that is an extremely reflective touchscreen over and completely nullify, the customer is left out. The allegedly supplied USB cable is a mistake in the description. It's also perfectly reasonable freely because you can not connect to a PC, the tablet, except it would be a USB OTG cable. At least there is now driver packages for download and on the device's website in the support section to find a reference to the SDXC support. Registering your product on the HP Web site is now also possible.
Average weekly seems the tablet to get a "Freeze", but if you can connect a mouse to operate it. After a restart is again everything OK, so it affects only the touch screen. The same applies to the back camera which sporadically, until the next reboot, shows a black screen. The touch screen uses a new technology (Atmel XSense metal mesh) and is very inaccurate in the border areas - particularly one notices that on the desktop where it is an ordeal to make the "X" to close maximized windows. Also so far I could not make the move Stylus to work with the tablet satisfactorily together, which is probably also due to the new touch screen technology. In addition, from certain angles, the metal grille and a rainbow effect can be clearly seen. The performance of the card reader up to scratch: Read 19MB / s and 10MB / s write lt h2wtest (TS32GUSDU1E).. The mHDMI bush askew in the casing - a connected plug is on one side from just under 2 mm, but it works. The very short charging cable annoying but significantly more than initially thought: on request which dimensions of the device-side connector has to get me another with a longer lead, I got no answer.
The volume, both internal speaker and headphone jack is sufficient for the living room but the office or outdoor use not.
Somehow HP is struggling with this device, both with the support and with the marketing and availability. So, there are unfortunately, two months after the launch, still not (stand) Cases or films by well-known manufacturers. I hope there is doing something else.
The initial enthusiasm has now turned into disillusionment and I wonder whether a devaluation by another star attached for above reasons ...

Update 04/03/2014: The tablet still has issues with the wake from sleep; sometimes not only responds to the touch screen but also sometimes the whole display remains dark. In addition, the poor sensitivity in the corners or edge regions prevents a reasonable work and use the Windows 8 gestures. Often you have to "clicks" or certain gestures multiple times in order to be recognized. Especially you realize that when using a Displayschutzfolie.Der HP support shows little interest in the issue to examine seriously, there are only standard questions, feedback or stay out are meaningless. Meanwhile charging problems we have added and you have to occasionally insert the plug again or turn slightly so that is loaded. I had feared from the beginning if you look at the bush. At this point I would like once again to the HP forum on the American site point where you will quickly see that I am not alone with these problems. That was definitely my last product of HP since both equipment and support are equally disappointing. Meanwhile, I can well understand why HP has often been a guest at "Caution customer! In the magazine c't". "The Omni 10 I'll sell. Currently it is because of the above problems at the manufacturer.
