There are three light modes: a) focussed white beam of a central LED, b) diffuse white light of 2 LEDs on the left and right rear diffuser, c) semi-focused red light from 2 LEDs left and right. All modes can be dimmed in a wide range. The Black Diamond is one exception with a single button operated, which is also used to select the modes: 1x Tap = directed white light, 2x Tap = diffuse white light, hold 3 seconds = night mode (red), who is also the interim off and on again (tap) remains in effect until you disable it in the same way again. Press 6 seconds locks the lamp to prevent accidental start - fantastic how many times I had dead batteries, because a lamp had turned in the backpack.
An added feature - a sensor switch on the side - initially caused confusion: it switches the lamp instantaneously to 100%. The irritated if you have not read the instructions and accidentally drankommt. Whenever you turn on the lamp is lit with 75% power, by pressing and holding one dims first down, then back into the light and back again. I would have preferred to get a previously set light output, because I use the lamp as mentioned above all as a weak light source. That's my only complaint, but I have found nothing better on the market. The lamp seems off to consume no electricity, as occasionally is the case with other brands.
The elastic holding band passes through the rear pivot mechanism by which one can adjust the horizontal angle of the lamp head. It is removable so you can attach the lamp, for example, also on a chest strap or clipboard, if you would like to make it deeper, so as not to dazzle a partner by "watching" spontaneously. When changing the batteries (3x AAA, batteries are not a problem) should be a little careful, because then the rear panel is only held by two plastic strips, closed the lamp is quite sturdy despite their small size and works reasonably waterproof.
