Shortly beforehand: I am of the opinion that the best Navis not survive, for whatever reason. Earlier I drove, for example with the Becker Indianapolis for over 10 years, it would be still one of the best navigation systems, if not the map updates would be a problem. It was already dominated announcements like "next exit, take the second exit, ...", which today dominates no manufacturer. Then I had a Navigon as a substitute and was very happy with it, I dare say that it was with the best. Navigon was bought. What's left? Becker now uses the software iGo and does not come close to the quality of previous Becker devices. Navigon as I said, it no longer exists. So stay TomTom, where the bend is somewhere right in front of me and where I'm going to the roundabout to wrong-way driver, because I should turn this left. And halt Garmin, where until the last version of an equally modest voice as optical output was available. Well, in addition a few discounter brands, if I have now forgotten no.
But we come to the 3597LMT:
This Garmin device you noted in many respects the influence of Navigon, though not in all.
If you firstonce examined the operation, so this is largely just, just in the Settings menu you can find specific items under a different category than expected. Or maybe a matter of habit.
>> At this point, another point for navigation in city centers: This is possible, but tucked away! When you're in the destination input menu, then you can scroll down a bit and find the option "Add Shortcut". There you can select "cities" and then push through to hold and move next address. One needs then from now no longer going through POIs o. Ä. Make!
As for the navigation, so this is quite good. The visual presentation is very good thanks to the high-quality displays and a sufficient resolution, if in doubt you can adjust the map display even with Skins. Although you can display only arrival or remaining kilometers, but that bothers me z. B. less. The times are coming down quite well and finally I look anyway rather to the road than on the rest of kilometers.
The acoustic route guidance has been improved a lot! While this was the main reason in recent years to stay away from Garmin, they have obviously learned from Navigon! It is not perfect, but looks much more natural than previously and is designed for easy navigation sufficient. For this you have to say that the Navi holds back with more announcements. An AK and AD z. B. is no announcement, even if one does not have to leave, but simply the "straight tracks" further follows. Also comes on the AB usually no direction information. Personally, I would have a better place, but it is not now so that you do not know where long. Especially as the pictures are on the Naive of corresponding crosses and triangles very clearly and also the lane assistant is very helpful. Sometimes even announcements come as "On the left two lanes classify" what is it misleading?
The quality of the routes is mostly good, but again, not always perfect. Perhaps the Navi needs a longer period of acclimatization to find routes to my taste, but that remains to be seen. But on the whole to get on good paths to the goal. At least the routes are no worse than those from the competition.
Two sets even for traffic, which I refer on smartphone (the quality of the reports even left out): The Navi calculated for each message as "construction" and "Animals on the road" a new route, but see if you really is faster. The display of the messages is in order in the split-screen.
At this point I would like to come back to the beginning of the review back: Actually, the device of mine would "only" get 4 to 4.5 star. It is really very good, but not perfect. I have nevertheless decided to use 5 star because I have as I said several devices tested and this was the best by far. Thus, since there is currently no better device (in my opinion) and the assessment should also be an indicator of potential customers so there is this very good evaluation, in the hope that it is an incentive for Garmin, not to sleep but rather to continue improve. Garmin is indeed known for above-average product support in terms of number of updates etc..
