Seiko Men's Watch XL Seiko 5 Sports Automatic Stainless Steel Analog SNZG13K1 (clock)

Customer Review

... How to describe the SNZG13, at least in my opinion.

Of the numerous watches that I own, most of them in turn quartz and most digital. Digital watches are unbeatable when it comes to maximum functionality and robustness, they are also (mostly) quite inexpensive. For someone who often has need for stopwatches, timers or alarms, a digital clock is a true blessing. Also you read with a digital clock time more accurate from, since it is precisely 14:13:12 (pronounced Fourteen clock thirteen and twelve seconds) and not like on an analog clock where you at a glance maintains the same quarter past two

Sometimes I also do not need all the additional functions, and most people hardly ever (you can nowadays anyway everything on Mobile Phone / Smartphone Set), then an analog clock is actually unbeatable. That starts with the readability, which can in the case of Seiko can only be described as phenomenal. No matter under what point of view, the tidy dial always provides a perfect readability.

For me an absolute advantage of the most likely does not matter yet, but very contributes to improved Ablesbakeit the day: there is no silver-colored borders for superscripts and the date window. In direct sunlight, such reflect namely, leaving the entire dial appear somewhat "vague" - an example of this is the SNZF17.

At dusk, when the ambient light has greatly subsides, forming the white pointer on the Zifferblat excellent contrast. This also applies to darkest (or no) light conditions, thanks to the very good luminous material of Seiko (Lumibrite) remains the clock and throughout the night to read. The Seiko be Mir is actually no other manufacturer is known, which employs such a superb luminous, light quasi topped only by H3 watches with tritium tubes will last for years without any power or light source. Unfortunately, these watches are banned in Japan, which is why you probably never a Seiko, Citizen and Casio will see with H3 illumination.

The dial has in reference to the nickname of SNZGxx series Big Military - printed next to the numbers 1-12 (large) even the numbers 13-24 (small). For a military watch this is mandatory, because there in all countries - only in 24-hour system is expected. For us Europeans it may seem funny, but the American soldier who comes from the country has previously always thought only speak from 1-12 AM to PM and is somewhat at a loss when he for the first time of 23:15 (Twenty-Three Hundred Fifteen hours) listening, therefore a 24 hour division. Where you have to say in fairness that digital watches are a better choice for soldiers onehin (mostly).

The glass of the clock is a Hardlex, which is Seiko's own term for hardened mineral glass. Hardlex is characterized by very low reflections from, as well as a decent scratch resistance. It's not as hard and scratch resistant as sapphire crystal, but also cheap and useful without anti-reflective coating.

In addition to the hours, minutes and seconds hands, there is a weekday display (English and German), and date. This must, except in July / August every two months to be adjusted manually as the clock counted up every month with 31 days. Day and date are discreetly held with wise font on a black background, which integrates harmoniously into the dial. Fortunately has waived the unspeakable unfortunately increasingly has come in recent years in fashion positioning of the date window at 4 o'clock or 4:30 clock, sitting in SNZG13 day and date where they belong, in the 3 clock position.

So that's basically all that this clock can display the time and date and weekday. Such unnecessary bells and whistles such as a rotating bezel not found in the SNZG13 because it also is not a diver's watch, this decision is absolutely right and also to be welcomed.

When drive is the notorious Seiko5 work 7S36. This drive is not intended for the highest precision and known (although there may values with possible readjustment on chronometer) well but virtually indestructible work over decades (!!!) away. A stop seconds and a manual winding one looks at 7S36 vain (technical term: non-hacking movement) and the very good reason: Each additional component (inhibition, Aufzugssfeder) makes a mechanical drive susceptible to interference, which lies in the nature of things. The 7S36 is kept as simple as possible, providing maximum robustness, waived it on the two above-mentioned points. Nevertheless, you can adjust the SNZG13 seconds Just when you want to. As soon as the second hand is at 12 clock position, pull out crown and with little back pressure (English technical term: back pressure) the second hand left there. Once you have adjusted the clock (anything with a radio alarm clock) simply release the crown and you have the exact time. The missing manual winding is no more a problem: often it's enough if you simply sets the clock and makes the wrist. Distributes the natural arm movements throughout the day, ranging from the clock running to keep, if not pivot Just one-two minutes back and forth ready (and for joggers among us: after a 10km run the clock is guaranteed fully wound: -))

For many people have watches, mechanical drives are perhaps not appropriate, because the power reserve rarely reach even with fully tucked spring 48 hours. If you change so often his watch one must inevitably bite the bullet and set again each time the date, day and time. Remedy can create here a Uhrenbewger, but I think the idea to put a mechanical clock on an electrically moving part, to say the least for a pervert because you can also buy the same Quartz course everyone must decide for themselves.

The SNZG13 is indicated with a water resistance of 100Meter / 10bar should therefore eventually for all daily tasks things like hand washing, showers swimming so perfectly sufficient, the official version. My unofficial version is: all nonsense, this massive marketing is operated as with all manufacturers, I would in any case no concerns and problems take the SNZG13 on a scuba diving tour Here again, everyone must know yourself.

The crown is not screwed, which also comes the simply held construction to property and a source of error excludes more (broken thread). Screwed, however, is the glass floor, which is for me the only gripe (small). From the perspective of maximum robustness makes a steel cover more sense. Sure you can then see nothing of the movement, but let's be honest who has ever looked at the flywheel? The bottom has a round thread and is not fixed as with many other clocks with four screws. For many, this method is considered the better due to increased water resistance, I do not share this view, but not disprove it either. From my experience, both methods are equally reliable when one pays attention to the basic physical things when opening and closing.

The SNZG13 being pretentious in any way, or looks like a bling-bling Blenders, which is also due to the brushed case and bracelet. But it also affects non-conservative, making them wear good both for casual wear as well as for business suit equally. The best way to describe the clock athletic, elegant, discreet and trustworthy. The product pictures are not you even begin to do justice, moreover, in Natura sees the clock many times better. The dimensions are the way:

- Width: 42/45 mm (with / without crown)
- Height: 49.5mm (lug to lug)
- Thickness: 12mm
- Weight: 146 grams (with me four remote band members)

Conclusion: Automatic watches are not for everyone, but if you like mechanics and also looking for a sporty, robust and reassuring company that also rips also not a huge hole in your wallet and if you SNZG13 constantly or at least very often - then transmits is they like in the headline the essence of a watch just buy it.
