The smartphone

Foreword

Much highend hardware for comparatively low price? These are the characteristics of the (new) Google smartphone, the Nexus 5, which is manufactured by LG. The display measures almost 5 inches diagonally and therefore has my eyes the optimum size for a smartphone. I prefer 5-inch smartphones, because they be able to read the best compromise between a) big enough to reasonably MMN and b) make up just handy. The pretty thin margins left and right of the display, the device can be quite slim look. In the following I want to reflect my personal impressions of the device. It is specifically about my personal opinion.

Housing and feel

The housing of the Nexus 5 is made of plastic. The back is held in a kind of soft touch with the black model. That is as much as that it feels rubberized pleasant. It has a nice "soft" feeling from the chassis. The unit indulges the hand and has, thanks to the slight rubber coating a super grip. >> Warning: the version in black, the back is coated with the described soft-touch finish. Reportedly the white model, however, is smooth. In addition, its edges are (frame all around) in black piano lacquer! The red Nexus 5 model is again completely in red (back and border). The red model is a, the black model similar reported back, which, however, is towards smooth as rubberized. Furthermore, all models are the earpiece in the model color. Overall, the (black) Nexus 5 feels really at very high quality. Of course it is not a metal but it is plastic but very nice. However, a fact I have to critically evaluate, namely the fact that the camera is protruding. Although the lens a small ring which ensures that the lens does not directly rests, this provides protection only conditionally.

Display

As I mentioned at the outset, the Nexus devices are characterized by a very high-quality hardware from a compared to the top models of common manufacturers, rather low or very low price. So the Nexus 5 has a Full-HD display (resolution 1920x1080 pixels). This results in an approximately 5 inches (4.95) large display to a pixel density of 445 ppi (pixels per inch). May have switching from Samsung devices with the brightly colored AMOLED displays (which, incidentally, I do not like so much) feel that the display looks a bit defensive. I find the display class. The color display is very true in my eyes. Thus, pictures look very natural.

Software

Now we come to my favorite spot for that matter Nexus 5, the software. The pure Android, directly from Google, without any manufacturer essay (no TouchWiz or similar). It is a no-frills software pre-installed on the device, which you may do not want to have. I personally did not like it, most adjustments to the manufacturer. I'm sorry, but again, I have already mentioned as a negative example Samsung: Their TouchWiz interface tells me not utterly. With those whose smartphones are littered ... Most are from the existing storage already 20-30% just by this, also Bloatware, said software also completely unnecessary Samsung Apps has. Even better is the pure Android, but has always noticed the way the best experience / performance.
Quite incidentally you are using a Nexus device, the first that comes to enjoy a new Android version. In brief (as of 16.08.2014), we expect the new version "Android L", which are the introduction of Android will bring the biggest changes. You do not need months, even years waiting for this update. No! Just a few weeks after the publication of the Nexus 5 will get this update.

Battery and runtime

I initially had some concerns with regard to the battery life of the Nexus 5, because the battery capacity 2300 mAh initially seemed a bit low. These concerns, however, were largely unfounded. It comes with the Nexus 5 very well over an entire day. Usually I have a remaining capacity of 10-20%. And if a mobile phone now by holding one or 1.5 days actually plays but no role, right? Finally, the phone is in the evening so or so charged because the remaining capacity for the following day would no longer suffice. Thus here is for me all right.

Camera

Since the 8-megapixel main camera of the Nexus 5 has one of the first smartphones to an optical image stabilizer, it actually shoots passable photos. However, the noise at increasing dusk increases noticeably. The LED flash helps within its means. On the whole the camera is to make absolutely fine here and there to take a snapshot. And in which smartphone the pictures at night is not bad (it) - exceptions prove the rule! And who wants to make serious photos, this will certainly not do with a smartphone. In this respect, no reason to complain.
I would like to commend the HDR + mode, the camera (app). In this process several pictures are taken with different settings and expect this in connection to a picture together. I have achieved with the HDR + mode is usually very good results. However, the recordings take so much longer, creating a permanent benefit of the mode is not suitable. In addition, the mode is possible only for static shots, in other words only when there is no motion in the image.

Memory

The mobile phone is available in two versions. The smaller version is equipped with 16 GB. While there is a doubling of the memory to 32 GB for an extra charge of 50. Here you should really think twice about the charge but not to be accepted, because the internal memory can (Google typically) will not be expanded via an SD card. In this respect, I would still tend to 32 GB variant. In the 32 GB version 27 GByte are ex works free of charge. Who is definitely (still) more memory goes, is not sure of the OTG support the Nexus 5 happy. With an adapter can be connected to USB Flash Drives on the N5. The Nexus 5 takes in this scenario, the host function (normal PC).

Summary and Conclusion

I want to briefly enumerate again the positive and negative aspects that struck me personally on the Nexus 5. Following I will draw my conclusion.

Thus I come to the following conclusion:

The Nexus 5 is an absolute top smartphone with extremely large computing power at a very reasonable price. The Nexus 5 offers a good display, a simple elegant design and offers pure Android. The mobile phone is still is an absolute Empfehlung.Fest: For this price, there is definitely not better. In conclusion: The Nexus 5 is almost perfect and an absolute buy recommendation!
