Originally I always photographed with Canon, beginning with the 400D, 60D, and finally with the 6D and various lenses. However, what has always bothered me was the weight and volume that you have to bring particular on longer hikes.
After much hesitation and much much stomach ache I have then separated from the 6D to buy me the beginning of November the EM1.
Initially, the change was very big. The camera not only felt very small, but in fact much smaller and much lighter. Can I take pictures with it at all?
Yes, you can! And how! After analysis of my pictures that I have previously always received, I realized that I ausreize the high ISO values better than ever and I is related to the EM1 of the full extent of my habits available. In normal case I shoot up to ISO 800, in rare cases, even more. I find images to ISO4000 fully sufficient for the development of normal sizes.
With respect to the objectives, I have acquired the 12-40 2.8 KIT I like the large focus range that allows even Portraits at maximum aperture. Image quality and feel also fits very well.
So, but now the camera.
What I really like:
++ The compact design is the most important advantage in the EM1 towards all my previous cameras for me. They can virtually always have it and always has the best available picture quality is.
++ The image quality of the sensor is beyond any doubt. Of course, not necessarily to the last detail with VF comparable, but so good that one with me noticed no difference in 99 percent of the images, which I mainly photograph landscape and family.
++ The operation of the camera is very confortable and fast. With the many one-touch keys and the adjuster it is even better to use than my 6D. One can also change still a lot of settings yourself, but that does not do you actually need.
++ The viewfinder is a stunner. Initially, it was of course a change to the optical viewfinder of a 6D, but you have here an even larger and brighter viewfinder and at the same time a lot of information that can be displayed directly in the viewfinder. This speeds up the work enormously and is only fun.
++ The lens range is absolutely sufficient. Alone only from the range of MFT lenses you can buy a lens for all occasions. By 17 1.8er Camera is a lightweight at the same time top intensity. All my lenses are very sharp starting at full aperture and overall I am with all my lenses (17 1.8 / 75 1.8 / 12-40 2.8 / 40-150 R) even easier than traveling with my 6D and KIT lens.
What do I rate as neutral:
o The many automatic programs I find nice and also use them now and then, but for me it was not a criterion me to decide for this camera. However nice if they did.
o The folding screen is very well resolved and as the name implies also foldable. However, it is not an absolute unique selling point of this camera, which is why I do not rate it as an additional positive. For ground-level shots, however, a lot of value.
Reviewed negative I have the following point:
- The battery life is quite weak and who comes from a DSLR is scare. I have always three batteries in the camera bag this to be now prepared for all eventualities. For me, however, no reason to deduct a point.
Who can I recommend the camera:
In particular, those switching from the higher-priced DSLR segment I like put this camera to my heart, because you herewith the gentlest introduction to MFT camp experiences (Panasonic I have not tried and therefore can not comment). But serious photographers who are willing to invest a little more will not be disappointed by the EM1.
For many enthusiasts will certainly be a good alternative, as it is much cheaper and it is no different from the BQ as well as the EM10. I like but at the EM1 under control and the many setting possibilities.
I hope my review has helped you make a decision. Found error? Then notify me happy.
