Hello everybody,
this review refers to the 16GB 400x UDMA CF card from Transcend.
I have this memory card for my Canon EOS 50D risen to so my 2GB SanDisk Extreme III to replace (model 2007). After the upgrade to the 50D abuts said SanDisk both the capacity and the read and write performance point to their limits. In full resolution in RAW format just fit approximately 85 images on the card (EOS 50D). Furthermore, after about 15 sequential shots / 6,3fps circuit. In most use cases, this is more than adequate, but what is more disturbing in this context, is the time it takes for the SanDisk to save the data. Here I saw further potential for improvement.
Based on the positive reviews, the low price and my positive experience with the Industrial CF cards made by Transcend, I decided to zuzulegen the 16GB 400x UDMA CF card from Transcend. What can I say, I'm excited!
That about 8x more photos on a 16GB card fit as a 2GB, is obvious. 2:55 I have checked with the freely available tool HDTune The card - all sectors in so far as OK. Speed-wise, the Transcend my SanDisk is measurable and also noticeably superior. The transmission rate is measured almost twice as long as the Canon EOS 50D is connected via USB to the PC or laptop. In my SanDisk Extreme Mate USB 2.0 card reader, however, the advantage of Transcend opposite the SanDisk Extreme III is not so obvious. Here are just about 2MB / s between two cards: SanDisk Extreme III = 16.5 MB / s vs. Transcend 400x = 18,5MB / s. I strongly suspect that the card reader is the bottleneck here and recommend therefore, data of the Canon EOS 50D (or a comparable, fast camera) via a USB cable to transfer or to take the purchase of a very fast FireWire card reader into consideration. Moreover, I can now trigger the Transcend 20 sequential shots with the EOS 50D, before the camera takes close to save the data gradually on the CF card. Here the Transcend plays turn their assets fully and needs for saving RAW images of approximately 20 full-resolution (EOS 50D) only half as much time as my aforementioned SanDisk Extreme III for about 15 pictures.
Conclusion: I would recommend, especially because it considerably cheaper than, for example, a current 16GB SanDisk Extreme (60MB / s), the Transcend. I hope that I will have long joy with the Transcend. At the end of an article worth reading (English), you should before buying a super fast card Be sure to read: [...]
