Price-performance Technically, the Tamron SP AF 70-200mm 2.8 a real recommendation. The workmanship is very good and the delivery with lens clamp and Deflector optimal. The objective in and of itself makes very good pictures, but the lack of ultrasonic motor and the sluggish autofocus ensure that I can forgive only 4 out of 5 stars. I have the Tamron used with my Sony Alpha A77 and realized that it could not really keep up with this. At the 2012 Photokina in Cologne, I was able to test Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM Lens (77mm filter thread) for Minolta / Sony lens mount and have to say: It's way better what the terms of the auto focus. Also, the ultrasonic motor was the main reason that I've bought, replacing the Tamron.
The next successor to the current Tamron SP AF 70-200mm Di LD 2.8 (IF) Macro I could also test at Photokina and can honestly say: Just wait a little bit until it reaches the market. Firstly, the price of the current objective will decline, on the other hand it is worth the direct comparison with the successor. The autofocus is much faster and an ultrasonic motor will also be on board.
Who does not want to wait and not have high expectations is, is very well served by the current Tamron. The images are so crisp, high contrast and 2,8er bezel is a dream even in adverse lighting conditions.
