1. Design. The Gira smoke alarm device looks very good and is different from the beneficial plastic look so many other models.
2. Operating status messages. Most smoke alarms flashing every 45 seconds briefly to indicate their proper functioning. Such flashing but I find quite disturbing in a darkened living room or even in the bedrooms. The Gira also performs an automatic function test, but reports by (permanent) flashes only in the event that a fault is detected.
3. Low battery indication. Now if a battery to a close, it is at night through the built-in dusk sensor the audible alert that the battery is running low postponed until the following day. In the dark basement room but one would have probably resort to another model with real-time clock.
4. This smoke detector can be operated with a 9V longlife battery, so that he should run for 10 years. After 10 years of smoke detectors should be replaced for safety reasons (this applies also for all other models known to me).
5. origin. The model is made in Germany.
6. The smoke detector can be mounted on the ceiling with a single screw (in the center of the mounting plate). This is perfectly adequate for the low weight of the detector. Alternatively, there are recesses for two laterally arranged holes.
Other features that have in my choice but played no role:
- Theft protection (protection against disassembly possible)
- Retrofitting with radio module possible
- Can also be used as heat detector in the kitchen run, but then loses the VdS approval.
As Einzeiger drawback I noticed:
The battery will slide in a little hard. The reason is that you can not screw without battery in the mounting plate the smoke detector and to a plastic nipple needs to be moved through the battery.
Overall, highly recommended.
