Short on the strengths and weaknesses of the notebook:
+ Very good price / performance ratio
+ Relatively flat
+ Light weight
+ Very quiet, but fans already jumping at very little additional load on (but you can adjust in Linux)
+ Latest processor generation (Haswell) with i5
o energy consumption is relatively high (at least in the Linux are still significantly optimized with newer Linux kernels as 13W at full display illumination and wireless, I reach but also with my i7 processor second generation probably will)
+ Quiet and good hard drive (WD blue)
+ By omitting Windows saves about 60
+ Internal SATA port SATA III (in Internet circulating information that this supposedly only SATA II is)
FULL HD display:
Matt +
o Brightness (can definitely ok, not as bad as some other Acer displays, and not as bad as some reviews suggest) good to average
- Illumination on the edge noticeably weaker and in particular at the bottom is very irregular
Workmanship:
o Keyboard plane expands when writing down slightly (still ok)
o sometimes clatters the left touch-pad button rattles (initially for each key pressed on the keyboard, but has become better)!
Notes for Linux users:
All FN keys (except display brightness) run in ubuntu 14:04 out-of-the-box. Set the display brightness to write in / etc / default / grub
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX = "acpi_osi ="
and makes then: sudo update-grub
Until 3:13 kernel is used
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX = "acpi_backlight = vendor" instead GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX = "acpi_osi ="
Installing Ubuntu from USB3 stick takes 7 minutes (incl. Boot).
The hardware is in Linux (tested for Ubuntu, Xubuntu, mint) perfectly support!
Update 01.2015:
I retrofitted an SSD 1st end of 2014. This I can confirm that in the present device, the hard drive is connected to a SATA III.
Notebook and programs start faster now, but I had imagined the difference even more serious. But with Linux it was even before that very quickly, boot time is now not even 5 seconds.
2. Energy consumption is now with SSD and a new kernel in Linux at about 12W at full display illumination and WLAN. That's still not a dream value, but ok.
