Wipeout Fusion (video game)

Customer Review

Introduction:
No Sony console without Wipeout. With the Playstation 1 everything has its time began and it was ultimately a success story. I remember well when I had gone to 16-times the movies and was a trailer of the first Wipeout suddenly on the mega screen. The amount has been raging and was beside himself. In Germany, the game then was one of the launch titles and was with my first 3D Lemmings PSOne game. On the evening of purchase I immediately sat down to work, the connected PS1 that game tricked and flabbergasted. 3D! Quick! Wow!
The first few laps were obviously laughable bad and I'm staggering more than once a stretch against the gang. This was an entirely new feel.

Over time 4 Wipeout titles are for the first Playstation appeared:
- WipEout (1995)
- WipEout 2097 (1996)
- Wip3out (1999)
- Wip3out SE (2000)

There was also a WipEout 64 (1998) for the Nintendo 64 and a conversion of WipEout 97 (as WipEout XL) for the PC.

There are now also WipEout Pure for the PSP (2005); also has been announced for Sony's portable console for December 2007, the next title WipEout Pulse. Also for the Playstation 3 an offshoot called WipEout HD will come.

WipEout Fusion was on the Sony consoles of Title 5, a total of the 7th game of the series, if you count Ports and versions for other consoles.
In addition, WipEout Fusion of the fan base was ardently longed, should it indeed be the first 128-bit version of the franchise.

Control and gameplay:
In WipEout has always been controlling glider on magnetic tracks and tried to put his opponents using various weapons out of action. The first WipEout games were still divided into different classes (first and Venom Rapier later Vector, Venom, Rapier and Phantom). Each year above was marked by a significant increase in game speed requirement was therefore the one hand, the perfect command of control, and an exact knowledge of the route. WO merger, however, there is no longer this class system. Rather obtained for mastered tracks points / credits that must be stuck in an improvement of the vehicle. These are then handy, faster, better armored, etc. A circumstance which I feel as an absolute throwback personally. The class system had a significantly higher appeal.

The control of each slide Boliden is always very different. Each individual has their own flier flight characteristics. One is very little, but vulnerable to weapons, the next difficult to control, but see well armored, etc.
The controller is otherwise freely configurable. The most important element of the game is probably the so-called air brake. Because you do not have mature yes Grip and there is no ... to master difficult passages, so you have to the Air-Breaks skillfully use to slow the plane and let skillfully drift around the curve. Depending on the handling of the slider that's for harder times lighter.
I find, however, that the control has ever completed regressed since the first two Wipeout games. The handling was always spongy total.

Otherwise, the gameplay compared to the older titles has remained the same: fire enemy, first will come on. Here one must be careful to always have enough energy, otherwise the box flies in the air. So time to pit.
There are different settings with different long stretches. Here you are flying again in jungles, in Eiswelten, deserts, etc. Very varied. The various forms (long, medium, short, forward, backward) to get a total of 42 courses! And these courses have what it takes. The Power of the PS2 console compared to the older Daddelkisten allows loops, huge 90 ° -Gefälle and other subtleties that did not exist in this form in Wipeout games before.

The number of slides has grown significantly with 32 pieces. In addition, a two pilots with different strengths and weaknesses, in turn, are available.

In addition to the race modes Time Trial, Single Race and Championship there in Wipeout Fusion still special challenges. This challenge mode it is necessary to achieve specific placements or lap times, turn a predetermined number opponents to win a duel or just some time to survive.

A lack of diversity can never be accused of the game so.

Graphics:
Graphically can Wipeout Fusion quite convincing. Due to the fact that there is no launch titles was due to delays in the development, plays Wipeout Fusion graphically in an average league. In other words: much prettier than starting track, but not as brilliant as more recent titles. The graphics and presentation were the appearance of the game, but state-of-the-art. Here you can not complain really. Only in the split-screen mode you have to accept significantly cuts and stuttering that does not make a lot of fun.
Otherwise, the game runs very smoothly, rarely leads to slowdowns.

Sound:
Here, the developers have also upped their game. The intro thunders with 5.1 surround sound through the speakers, the rest of the game after all, still dominated Dolby ProLogic II.
The soundtrack once again succeeded here you have set the basics. The Wipeout series has always been marked by an electro soundtrack, to have so many famous artists adorned like Chemical Brothers, Orbital, Future Sound of London, The Prodigy, Cold Storage, Sasha. And so it is this time.
Fantastic!

Conclusion:
Wipeout Fusion shines with diversity, a Super graphics, a brilliant sound. Less successful that there is no longer racing classes and that the controller has become a bit too spongy.
