I ordered my Hahnel Giga T Pro II for the purpose of long-term exposures and for any timelapses. Delivered it was used quickly thanks to Amazon Prime, but the joy was over already been somewhat dampened shortly after unpacking. It turned out namely that the (included) Transmitter battery was empty, Ratzeputz and radically. Now this battery is one of the ever-popular "button cell", a CR2032, thus a battery that you have not necessarily at home are "stockpiled". So concerned during the (fortunately) always forthcoming week at the grocery store purchase or which substitute for "cheap" 4.30.
Now, one might think of this price, what you want, I personally feel about 4 Euro for a simple battery (not! Rechargeable) as quite expensive. But yes nothing helps ... The real audacity turned out to be back home out: the sender does not have an easily accessible battery compartment, but requires a screwing purpose battery change (!). Well, I was lucky, that was one of my former hobbies of model aircraft and, I have for this reason about Precision tool - because with a normal, simple Phillips screwdriver comes average consumer of no further: the built-in transmitter coil are a) sunk deeply, b ) very small and c) very delicate, so therefore out of reach for the vast majority of screwdriver and "not to pack." Without precision engineering tool here the end of the line is reached and instructed the average person either tool purchase or a specialist workshop. My opinion on Hahnel: put. 6
This hurdle has been taken, however, and therefore a test of the device, nothing stood in the way. Now we come to the already mentioned above feel and quality of the device. It is reasonable easy, but conveys no sense of value, which I find it disappointing at a price of just 80 euros. The plastic that makes up the device feels cheap, almost like out of a children's Surprise. The locking screw for the receiver (which for the accessory shoe) does not make solid impression and is also made of plastic. The control buttons on the transmitter to make all a very wobbly impression, and you might even think to keep a cheap copy from the Far East in his hands. All in all: poor.
The operation is partly intuitive, partly but also incomprehensible. Settings for shutter speed or number of shots go slightly out of hand, the - admittedly rather rare necessary - change channels from transmitter / receiver did not want me to succeed even once. The manual is in this case also not much help: performing a channel change is mentioned as a feature, but is described the process: no. A clear case of paper waste, this "manual".
Then, a first functional test. Listed are 4 minutes exposure time (ND3 goodness), Delay for tripping 2 seconds and 1 frame as a number. Contrary to intuition, which requires you to press the shutter button to start the sequence you have here a "Play" button as pressing on a DVD player. Unusual, but okay. The camera (Canon EOS 70D) kicks off as expected, but already at the start of the sequence one falls a temporal difference between the actual tripping time and start the integrated in the transmitter timer on the timer in the transmitter sets compared a jump start out of felt a half to three quarters of a second before the camera is. This may for long exposures of 4 minutes and more not so much worthy to be in, for example 35 seconds exposure time (for which one also already need the trigger) but can very well make a difference. And finally: the end of the exposure, the Hahnel system surprised once again, unfortunately, not positive here: the number of shots is set to 1, so only 1 photo. But what makes that thing? Correct: it snaps continue merrily, like there's no tomorrow.
All in all, can only be for the aforementioned reasons my judgment: insufficient. The unit goes back to Amazon, another (Phottix Aion) is already ordered.
