The Lovely Angel (Paperback)

Customer Review

On a hard subject, terrible, Alice Sebold has managed to write a beautiful and moving story. Susie Salmon is a little girl like the others in a suburb of Philadelphia, if not it is a little nicer, a little mischievous.
Coming home from school, she is raped and murdered by her neighbor, Mr. Harvey. This is not his first murder and gets rid of the body so that it will never be found. Arrival in his personal form of paradise, she sees her little cloud, how family and friends will manage the loss. Her parents initially refuse to believe it, Len inspector who, though human, should have exercised another profession, her younger sister Lindsey, imperturbable, his little brother four years, Buckley, who carries out not what is happening and that all are striving to protect.
She contemplates them and change looks, tear, confused by destructive silence. would like to talk to them, help them find the answers they seek, but she can not. While his family is torn, his girlfriend Ruth seeks to understand and that to which it gave its first and last kiss, Ray Singh, will not forget.
We are witnessing in this beautiful book all these rifts to these questions, on a very hard problem, that of loss. The Lovely Bones has been accused of voyeurism. I do not quite understand how to relate the suffering of a family is more voyeuristic than tell the diary of a condemned to death or get into the psychology of a Raskolnikov. It is characteristic of the book detail the feelings of his characters. The Lovely Bones speak of a subject so sensitive and shocking that, perhaps, the feeling of voyeurism could be exacerbated. It remains a beautiful book, full of humor and accuracy, some scenes (like the impromptu vigil, for example) are very moving.
