Customer Review

After almost 2 years of experience with a Nokia Lumia 800 with WP 7.8, a, until recently, mainly used Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and the occasional use of a Nokia 808 PureView, I would like to comment at this point a review for Nokia Lumia 920. I own the device now 2 weeks and have already had to struggle with the perils of WP 8 operating system and yet my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 largely left unused. Here's why:

Battery, Processing & Handling **** (40%)

Nokia has made it easy on it. Despite or perhaps because of this polycarbonate unibody body as already processed simply solid at Lumia 800, fits comfortably in your hand and makes me a long time suitable impression. The mechanical keys have a good pressure point and the arrangement of the terminals is applied sense. A memory expansion through a microSD card is not possible, but I think the free approximately 27 GB for more than adequate.

The LED display is a high resolution, but compared to a Samsung S4, HTC One and even to my Note 2, the display in terms of sharpness and color reproduction is not competitive. However, it raises the question of whether but ever requires a Full HD resolution for the Metro-tile system. Personally, I think the screen display for most applications is sufficient. Brilliant, however, can the competition. But the display is responsive to inputs cleanly and precisely.

Battery performance begins to increase just. The LED display uses a lot of power in the highest brightness level and therefore was dimmed by me on the middle level, which is sufficient basically. In addition, I have changed the data connection of LTE on GPRS. Nevertheless, it has the 920 with intensive use from 08:00 clock, without being loaded in between, around 22:00 clock at the latest to the power outlet. Which outlet is misleading. I use in the office and at home, the separately sold inductive charging stations, which are just great. The battery charge can be kept as permanent at a high level. Just in between lay in the cradle and you're done. No more plugging the charging cable into the USB socket. Such inductive charging station, there is also the way for the car. That's just to its logical conclusion and represents for me a clear USP towards siblings from his own camp (Lumia 925 and 1020), which all require an additional envelope. Only a few Android are from home to be able to be downloaded wirelessly to the Qi standard (eg Nexus 4, Samsung S4 with extra charging cover, etc.). However, you should be aware that the battery is permanently installed and has led with my Lumia 800 due to total discharge to a total failure of the device.

What I regard as a big plus, however, the memory management under WP 8 is in terms of RAM. The built-in 1GB never really come up against their limits because unused programs be terminated automatically in the background after a certain time. If Android can be very nice to observe how some point the RAM memory is full and the quad-core racers always respond carrier until it empties its 2GB of RAM. The processor also has to start no problem, programs without commemorative seconds fluid and changing. If it is then hooked actually once in an app, then this is usually the program itself.

Thank God you are no longer under WP relies on the Zune software if you want to sync music or images. Using the Windows Phone desktop application you can easily synchronize media or in the classic drag and drop method to move to the device via Explorer. Thus an earlier shortcoming has finally ceased to exist.

**** Connectivity (20%)

Bluetooth audio streaming on my car radio Sony XAV-601BT is working properly, the sound quality is ok and in conjunction with wired headsets can now finally use an equalizer Klangjustage in the settings menu. The setup of the wireless networks (with and without proxy) went smoothly. Even the Re-Connect to previously locked screen works without noticeable delay. The location services are needed for almost every program and are thus turned on fully. The data rate in conjunction with the IE is sensational. Google Chrome on my Samsung Galaxy Note 2, however, is downright sedate. The LTE data Turbo convinced on the Lumia 920 also in downloads of apps, as well as file attachments to e-mails. Praising I have compared to a Samsung S3 with LTE, which I had a few months in operation, it comes here not impair regarding the reception power or disruption in the adoption of calls when the device must switch this from LTE to GPRS. Actually, of course, but also already experienced differently. An annoying bug I have, however, need to determine is what solved hopefully soon an update. Namely, the speaker switches when dialing a busy number automatically after about 2 times a ringing. On the web there are other users who have the same problem. A solution appears for the affected user is not currently give.

Operating System & Software *** (30%)

The software is a very special topic. I use professionally conditioned on my Samsung Galaxy Note 2, the Apps of Deutsche Bahn (DB Navigator and DB-ticket). In WP 8 there is an excellent app for DB Navigator (graphically and functionally), but no app for use of mobile tickets. For this you have to buy your ticket on the IE and saved as MMS continues to redirect to the mobile site of the DB. Unfortunately SPOX has ever at any official application to the gate-alarm app FotMob is mildly sch ... awake! Other dear-won Android apps missing from the store completely. Integrated apps like Whatsapp, weather and battery percentage indicator are found while in the store, but must live with the restriction (even after the official Amber update) that live Tiles continues to be updated every 30 minutes. A large metro tile for a simple time display therefore missing entirely (only HTC phones have this as a special feature). But Nokia has developed special apps for Nokia devices, which I think is great. For example, the HERE transit (public transport, sensational), HERE Drive + (offline navigation in very good presentation, punctuality and good voice guidance), Nokia Cam Pro (optimization of the installed camera HW by an excellent software for recording photos). Adventitious still various camera apps that represent more or less sensible additions.

In addition, setting up e-mail accounts (Exchange, as well as IMAP and PO3 accounts) and social media very easy to accomplish services. Combined with the Metro tidy tile system, this operating system is aimed clearly at the average user who does not seek permanent new widgets or fanciest home screens and is not on the colorful icons in IOS or Android. Personally, I like the UI of WP 8 very.

*** Camera (10%)

The camera was praised after the release of Lumia 920 late last year partly in the sky, sometimes completely panned (yellowish, blurred at the edges). The truth is, as so often in the middle. A yellow cast, I could not tell. Blur are - if at all - to discover in the corners. But the Lumia is in low light conditions no better than the camera of Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and tends to be more worse than that of the Nokia 808 PureView. But basically better than the Nokia N8, which is often transfigured something nostalgically praised by many users. One has to be aware that the camera has a slightly above-average hardware, but above all a good software performs an intensive post-processing of captured photos. It happens that not always natural colors occur. I am of the camera not thrilled find them but for a smart phone ok.

Conclusion:

Nokia has a good hardware but with a still developable operating system WP 8 as a discontinued model on the market, which I (about 600.00 EUR) would certainly not have purchased at the original price at the time of launch. For this, the camera offers simply no unique selling point compared to a S3, S4 or HTC One. The battery life is significantly less than that of a Galaxy Note 2 and the selection of apps as well as the variability of the operating system is still behind that of Android devices. Meanwhile, the sales prices are, however, at just under 300.00 EUR. And for that you get in the price-value ratio a competitive smartphone the upper middle class, which according to. Press only because of its slightly worse camera and the poorer displays behind his siblings have to hide 925 and 1020. Whether this can be for example a surcharge of 400 EUR compared to a Nokia Lumia justifies 1020 or a 925 with only 16GB of storage approximately 170.00 EUR is worth more, everyone must vote for themselves. Those looking for an affordable, easy to use smartphone with business character, is the right place for the 920. Those looking for the ultimate in camera performance, customization and ways to play, is probably better off with an android. Based on my personal weight I'm at 3.6 stars which result rounded up nearly 4 stars.
