* Build quality
* Audio Quality
* In-built charger for rechargeable batteries
* A large well lit display
* Good sturdy volume dial
so now for the Things That make this radio only average -
* Only one frequency per page. This is so frustrating. This Means That If You Want to switch between AM / FM / LW / SW you have to press the button and then the Appropriate frequency preset. and repeat if you want to switch freq again. The 12yr old 7600gr does not have this. nor does the 1yr old TECSUN 880th
* Just a little too big wide and deep to use comfortably with one hand. Really Have To Use both hands, rest it down or use the kickstand
* Power button is buggy. Does not always switch on with one press, have to press it again.
* Audio fault with the freq. i listen to the stations using the 'wide' setting on the side of the radio. the sound is cleaner and sharper to me. my fav station is at the station and this is stored on the Priority button. HOWEVER problem is if listening to FM and pressing the priority button (at the station stored) on the station will switch to 'fool' even though the slider switch is set to 'wide'. The only way I have found to come out of this 'fool' sound and return the listening to 'wide' is to press the 'SSB' button 3 times! this is probably the most annoying bug. So if this happens using at the station for at alarm and falling asleep to on FM station
* Sleep function. Setting the unit into sleep mode is not easy. You have to hold the power button down and the sleep timer counts down from 90 minutes> 10 minutes in 10 minute steps until the time you require is reached and then you release the power button to acitvate the sleep timer. the display light does not come on at all When doing this so if doing this in bed it is difficult to see what you have set sleeptime. A Better more intuitive system would be to have a dedicated sleep button and with each press the time goes down in 10 minute steps. so press it 5 times and the sleep timer is set to 50 minutes.
* A 2 second delay When powering on before any audio is heard. No biggy but * some of the key presses are a little 'Squidgy'
as it stands the above is how I find things after using the 909X for a week. i'll continue testing and report back with an update at a later date. Without the issues highlighted above, this would be a 4 Easily, possible 5 Star Radio. unfortunately the good points above are just not 'good enough' to outweigh not so good points. so what in my opinion are the better SW portables? the Sony 7600gr and the TECSUN 880th
