A newborn baby is at the beginning very simple - at least in the diet -, it is sufficient milk from mother's breast, fresh and at body temperature. Now breastfeeding works but unfortunately not always or mother would allow her father the pleasure that he is breastfeeding the baby, of course, not with his chest but the bottle. In these cases, the mother pumped from the milk and stores them if it is to be for an extended period, in the refrigerating compartment.
Before the baby can then drink this milk, they should of course be re-heated to about 37 degrees, as the baby likes.
From the warming in the microwave is not recommended because the milk is heated unevenly and also breast milk should never be heated too hot because key ingredients are destroyed in milk through heat.
A solution for this are baby food warmer, available in all price ranges from various manufacturers. The tested here Philips Avent SCF355 / 00 is one with a price of about 30 euros more to the more expensive equipment.
First of all, it can be highlighted that in the unit of Philips not only fit their own Avent bottles but also those of other manufacturers. In the test were the breast milk bottle from NUK.
The bottle to be heated with the mother's milk is provided in the device and then water is up to about the height of the bottle contents added.
There are four different levels, which can be operated via rotary switch. A defrost, here the milk is thawed gently. In the operating instructions and the Quick Start Guide, which can be cut out, there is a table that specifies how long it takes to thaw various quantities of milk.
The next stage, which can be selected, the heating stage up to a quantity of milk of 180 ml and a heating step at about 180 ml milk content.
In the test, about 80 ml of frozen breast milk were thawed and it took a little over an hour to thaw, as indicated. The subsequent heating was about five minutes.
The final selection stage is one that makes it possible to heat up mash or similar children's nutrition.
Since the opening is large enough, should all possible bottles and food jars can be placed into it.
The device is easy to use and can be used both breast milk, as well as various other baby food warm reliably and thoroughly, thus the device would actually get almost full marks. But there are some points that Philips could have done even better. There is no timer, in which you could set the defrost or warm-up time and thus there is no audible signal when the desired time is reached. There is neither a Warming still shutdown. The second would be desirable.
