The starting point: The router is quite unfavorable in a corner on the 1st floor of a house, so that the reception with my HP notebook on the ground over a diagonal distance of about 7m does not always succeed. To improve the reception on the ground floor and to allow in the first place in the garden, I bought the repeater.
The device bearing the WPS feature Ask AVM went smoothly, as importing the latest firmware on the Repeater. I have both carried out in the room where the router is also. Then I went in search of a good repeater location on the ground floor. The range is limited, more than 5m diagonally through the house here is apparently not there. So I placed the repeater on the ground right in the room with the router. There, the connection strength from the repeater to your router with (only) 3 bar is quite acceptable.
Unfortunately, the compound was found but not as robust as hoped. Again and again came before it, that the Internet connection is lost. The observations of many Mitrezensenten I can attest to the effect so. The troubleshooting was complicated and I can not even describe exactly what I have tried everything possible to improve the situation in retrospect. Even in this short operating time, there was already a firmware update for the router, thus helping to bring the situation has also improved. Although the shows on the one hand, that there are still problems with the device, but on the other hand it also proves that AVM endeavored to repair, and to subsequent improvements. But there were also other components (see below in PS) participated in the initial problems.
I currently watch still 1 to 2 disconnections between routers and repeaters. Although this is not ideal, but can be quickly and easily fix so that this shortcoming does not so difficult for me to Weight: Repeater once for a few seconds from the socket pulled again plugged and waited a moment, then, there is a connection. At the moment I am still optimistic that can be on one of the next firmware update these dropouts still resolve.
As a result, I now have with the notebook from all locations on the ground from the repeater at least 4 (of 5) beams. Even outside in the garden is over a distance of 15m and well through a 30cm thick brick wall still connect to 3 bar. What more do you want? Considering the occasional disconnections I give the AVM repeater only 4 out of 5 stars.
PS Another tip for troubleshooting: It does not have to lie on the repeater / router. A significant improvement in the stability of connection arose in me the fact that I have installed the latest drivers for the built-in notebook Wi-Fi module. Previously, I was able to observe a connection abort and -wiederaufbau for repeaters in 20-second intervals, then the connection is to the effect stable. It should be while looking for the latest drivers, not only on the browser of the operating system (Microsoft Vista) leave, but also on the support page of the notebook or device manufacturer exactly see otherwise I would have the more reliable the new driver can not be found.
