A heroic defense

Warriors of Ultramar (Paperback)

Customer Review

Second volume of the cycle Uriel Ventris - Ultramarines, written in 2003 (2009 in VF) published a year after Nightbringer.

After meeting with the Ultramarines chapter in the preceding volume, Uriel Ventris, Captain of the Fourth Company will seek help to Mortifactors. A chapter with some "theological" differences on the teachings of their Primarch common, especially in pouring more commonly associated with the power of forfeiture ceremonies (which does not prevent them from being effective).
The Space Marines are going to lend a hand to planetary defense forces of Tarsis Ultra threatened by a spin Tyranid Hive Fleet Leviathan.

Tyranids, a monstrous nomadic species of predators, vaguely insectoid, from the confines of our galaxy, scouring the depths of space, consuming planets like the locusts, genetically adapting to each new generation to better attack the prey Next. Armed with a formidable arsenal symbiotic, of acid throwing, bio-plasma and bone peaks of all kinds. In short an opponent to par for our heroes.

The defense of a planet against an alien invader. Tasty space and ground fighting. A primary story as the previous volume. McNeill disperses less and suddenly, it's more efficient. If he takes the time to ask his story, its characters and explain to neophytes his universe and the forces that compose it,
Once launched the story, she rolls herself. With a very colorful and very immersive vocabulary for describing Tyranids and battles, there is beautiful set pieces well written and well turned.

In conclusion, a very good book, better than the first and that calls for the reading of the following: Clear death, black sun.
