I admit I spent hours reading and re-reading the various existing reviews on this goal and even though I was fully convinced of the quality of the object, I still had some doubts about my ability to get sharp pictures with both comments on the management of the shallow depth of field at f1.2 were numerous and explicit.
We only live once, go, it starts! Ordered and received the package the next day (as usual, thank you Amazon for quick shipping :)).
Opening the package: wow, beautiful object voila! The objective is effectively imposing and weighs the weight of a dead donkey! First apprehension during assembly, the rear lens is flush so absolutely sure not to do bad manipulations and scratch ... Installation ok!
First tests and actually between the distance of minimum focus (0.95m) and 2-3m, the focus is not nearly as fast as it can be on a 70-200 f / 2.8 II by example.
By systematically against AF grip, even in very low light. Awesome!
One point that I consider worth mentioning: not to rely a sharpness of images on the rear screen of the reflex (at least in my copy) because it is misleading ... By zooming it seems that the picture is blurred and the MAP is not correct from where some disappointment at the start ...
Once the photos copied to the computer, this is the slap! and what a slap! Photo not only sharp but still impressive dive to f1.2. Absolutely nothing to do with my 50mm f1.4 is really her soft 1.4!
By closing a little (2.8-3.2), the dive is even better, but honestly we do not buy such a monster to use closed.
I had the opportunity to test most intensively during extended weekends and usually blurry pictures I made were due to mistakes on my part and not to the AF 85L.
After studying the photos made during this weekend, I can only confirm the diabolical AF accuracy, even at full aperture!
The bokeh 1.2 allows for really different shots and it really has an effect will "wow"!
In short, a real pleasure to use and a purchase I do not regret, despite the price!
