Ah, what absolute wonder that this novel! What sumptuous imagination unfolds! How formidable skill history intertwines the most ordinary daily life and the most extravagant fantastic! Released in 1956, this book is for me one of the best classics of SF. I hold him in high esteem as The Invisible Man Wells or Planet of the Apes Boulle. First you let yourself be captivated by the extraordinary assumption and purely entertaining dimension and then, little by little, we become aware of its enormous wealth allegorical, sociological, philosophical and metaphysical. Had he written this short story, Richard Matheson would have richly deserved its place in the annals of Literature!
