Gigabit, you need to use Category 5 cables minima.
The 12-volt power at 1 A is enough because it requires little equipment, plus it has a power saving function when it detects no device is active.
It has the usual functions QoS on a switch and ensures optimum distribution of the flows.
While this switch is really to marry the range of Linksys routers of the same format and the same look, under which it connects to the end perfectly, it is of course compatible with any router or BOX.
You connect a switch port to a port on your Internet device, then your other devices (PC, TV, etc) on the 8 Gigabit ports (10/100 compatible Mbts course).
On the front panel there are the main indicators:
Ethernet 1-8 (main)
These LEDs have numbers corresponding to the numbered ports on the rear panel of the switch. If the light is solid, a device is connected to this port. A flashing LED indicates network activity over that port.
These are T-shaped LEDs
Ethernet 1-8 (secondary)
If the light is off, a device is connected to this port, 10/100 Mbit / s. Solid LED light indicates that the device is properly connected to this port at 1000 Mbit / s (Gigabit Ethernet).
This indicator is in the form of a light spot.
Attention no Ethernet cable is included with the switch.
CONCLUSION:
It is functionally a good switch (unmanaged), but it is a bit bulky and blends better with routers of its range as WRT54 or the new router WRT1900AC.
But it's a Linksys, so a reference in network equipment.
