The Peter Principle: or why everything is always wrong (Paperback)

Customer Review

A very amusing little book and you learn a lot about the functioning of human hierarchies with many hilarious examples. As Lawrence explains Peter and Raymond Hull, hierarchical positions in the long end up being occupied by people who reach their level of incompetence. The authors describe some very fun features of incompetence, for example, "structurophilie" or "the building complex" ie mania squandering money by building tall buildings. But people who are excluded from an organization is not only the most incompetent they are also the competent MORE. The system rejects indeed those 'jostle hierarchy' (see the concept of hierarchical defoliation ').

The authors also explain the palliative Peter Principle, such as the 'placebo Peter' for example to ensure that "incompetent workers, instead of constantly aspire to promotion, would lecture on the dignity of work" The 'Peter prophylaxis' (means to avoid being promoted to his level of incompetence), the 'palliative Peter'. The book ends with a chapter entitled 'Darwinian extension' or authors warn "sooner or later the man fatally reach his level of incompetence vital 'as dinosaurs and pterodactyls in their time, especially incompetent today have powerful technical tools (computers) to commit their ravages.

'Everything is explained when you read this book that is also a question mark and a challenge for each of us. Have we reached our level of incompetence?
