The lens comes with a heavily padded quiver sided lids and two lens hoods. Especially for APS-C format, the two lens hoods are also used simultaneously. Both the dimensions and the weight are considerable. The lens has three autofocus feature on a.) The full distance, b.) A pure macro distance and c.) The distance betwee macro and infinity. The AF works very quickly and quietly, which is due to the ultrasonic motor. This is particularly useful when taking pictures of animals, as for example lizards were not scared at a distance of 35 cm. Of course, it is possible the AF also off.
Even the image stabilizer meets my requirement entirely. Especially for wildlife photography an uncomfortable attitude must be taken often, which makes steady holding the camera difficult. The stabilizer can be enabled for horizontal and vertical movements, which is help enough during hand held shots. When using a monopod can be restricted only on horizontal movements. The Stabilitsator is also quite off.
However, the most important thing is the image quality. After the first macro shots and viewing on PC is a wow factor sets. The images are so crisp over the entire focusing range. Even at full aperture of the lens is 2.8 lifelike colors and amazing sharpness. Because of the long focal length of the focusing range is naturally minimal in this panel. Then one to two aperture stopped down, the lens then runs on to top performances. Until aperture 16 the depth of field increases without significant diffraction blur. That Bokeh at open aperture is beautiful, so I also like may establish the lens in portrait oil painting.
Interested parties should think about the following questions:
Can you accept the long focal length with the associated reduced depth of field at non-full frame cameras? If not, should be reduced to a focal length of 60 mm (see EF-S Canon or Tamron for APS-C). Secondly, you should consider whether you need an image stabilizer. Here you can save money, but I no longer want to do without it.
