Here, the Voice of America in the first decade of their dominance is: Self-confident, but not overly maniert. Sinatra's taste in song selection from the Great American Songbook is fail. Four of the sixteen songs are from Cole Porter. The original phrasing, but never for its own sake, only in the service of the text. The transparent arrangements by Nelson Riddle underpin the whole. From the presentation here this recording deserves five stars. Lost it has a star with me, because the digitization 1991 comes and sounds compressed. A new remastering would be desirable. Until then, however, only to enjoy, as he insinuates the song "From This Moment On", or as "If I Had You" brings nimbly dancing.
