The Complete elfquest Volume 1 (Paperback)

Customer Review

After ElfQuest was regularly available in recent years for some reason neither in Germany nor the USA, now a new publishing house has teamed up with Dark Horse finally found the elves offers a home. With The comlete ElfQuest Dark Horse presents the first volume of a series, is to be collected in the already published material. Volume One contains all 20 editions of the original Quest, with the journey of the elves 30+ years ago began.

The plot: The small tribe of elves Wolfriders / Wolf Rider is forced to leave its ancestral home. In their journey that begins as an escape, soon a search for other elves, who have spread a long time ago about the world of two moons. This leads to encounters with people, trolls and elves various tribes and eventually to a search, which is much larger than itself Cutter / reaper, the young leader of the Wolf Riders, it beyond your wildest dreams.

What is simple sounds in the Executive Summary, is actually one of the best fantasy stories ever told, and not just in the field Graphic Novels / Comics, but ever. It is a story full of beauty and danger, full of pain and hope, which makes the clichéd division into good and evil far behind and instead creates complex characters whose motivation the story drives. With its World of Two Moons Wendy and Richard Pini have created a world that, since I have met her for decades, unleashed never has a real masterpiece, as one meets very seldom.

The Complete ElfQuest is the perfect opportunity for all those who may have never read a ElfQuest booklet, dive into the world of elves and the. To an almost absurdly low price For not even the current 20 that is not Euro per issue or less than 3 cents per page (there are about 720 pages). Even for those who no longer have their old issues, this is the chance to buy the whole story in one fell swoop.

This is what you get in Volume One (for those who want to know): (first appeared from 1978 to 1984) output 1-20 of the original Quest. The booklets were published as it was then, that is, it lacks the additional pages from the Marvel / Epic Run. Even the old lettering is used (and not the new, which was introduced in the DC Archive Edition). The entire volume is (probably for reasons of cost) in black / white. It lacks the cover and back cover of the original (I suppose as these in black / white would not look good), instead there are almost all cover the Marvel / Epic runs (the mid-80s appeared in the United States, the series to a larger audience). Also in this issue Cover is a new koloriertes Marvel Cover (# 1). There is also a brief introduction by Rob Beschizza that I found unimpressive, and 18 pages of bonus material, consisting of old script pages and a Marvel Cover Gallery with comments by Wendy and Richard. Unfortunately, the first edition has a small misprint. Page 371 and 405 are identical, so it is missing a page (Page 17 of # 12).

Too bad I found that this edition of ElfQuest is not in color. The series does have a black / white tradition since the first editions in the United States also appeared in black / white. In Germany, however EfQuest was always available in color, which I prefer personally. Who shares this opinion and want to know the color version after reading this volume, which has different ways: In the United States appeared ElfQuest Book 1-4 (from Donning, brought out the first color version of ElfQuest, which also for the German edition was used), The Complete Book elfquest 1-4 (Warp, with new coloring) or ElfQuest Archives Volume 1-4 (DC, again with new Coloring). Those who prefer to read in German the series, which has a choice of adventures in the fairy world Volumes 1-20 (Bastion) or band 1-11 (Carlsen). There is one thing all of these editions together they are out-of-print and only available second hand / used available. Surely sooner or later as well as Dark Horse to bring out a color edition.

From me receive The Complete ElfQuest 5 star, even if it is only in black / white. This is one of the best, greatest and most extraordinary fantasy stories of all time. She has enchanted generations and will continue to do. ElfQuest brings the reader cry, makes him laugh, makes you dream him and gives him hope. Recommended for anyone who loves fantasy or just a good story.
