The Twelve Tribes of Hattie (Paperback)

Customer Review

Or rather heartbreaking stories because each chapter is followed by a children Hattie Shepherd little black 15 years in the 1920s left the South to settle in Philadelphia. (But not so "black" because it the author describes it as "high yellow") Ayana Mathis which this is the first novel has a real gift for writing; his style is lyrical, powerful, captivating. (I read this novel in 24 hours.) The first chapter with the death of the twins Hattie leave you tight throat. But the author never falls into pathos excessive, despite the themes such as schizophrenia or pedophilia. The end remains open enough so that each reader finds his account. As for me I wanted to stay much longer in the company of the Shepherd family.
