Morris gave the Elefantemenschen its own theme, which appears a strange but familiar at the same time. Nestled in a circus theme lets us this Main Theme is repeated at different locations in different versions of the story experience Merricks. Here Morris waived issues repeat as it is otherwise used, but to make it every time to let the issue sound with a new orchestration completely different. Time to recognize courage and hope, and then suddenly the despair and helplessness emerges.
Other sequences such as "John Merrick and Psalm" & "recapitulation" contain almost only strings that contain an incredible Melancholy. And the title "Adagio for Strings" by Samuel Barber bring then to the climax. No wonder, since it was used for the sequence when Merrick to kill themselves by asphyxiation.
On this score CD to "The Elephant Man" all these wonderful pieces of music are united and provide a listening experience for calm and sometimes meditative moments.
One of the best and most wonderful film scores available on a True Story I think.
This CD can be heard again and again. Absolute buy recommendation for those who are not only in Action-scores!
