Edward L. Deci and Richard Flaste make clear in plain language, that conventional methods of motivating learners or employees in companies often fail. "Carrots and sticks" are just limited funds to move people to act responsibly. The authors illustrate in many individual examples that increasing the scope for action and the promotion of expertise are critical to intrinsically motivated and interested in learning and work. I recommend this book to all interested students, parents, teachers (!), Supervisors ... It shows ways to rethink traditional notions of human action fundamentally.
