This is again a 208-page hardcover edition, again as detailed and full as previous works on the series The Hobbit.
In this album there are sets, props, characters and monsters designs. This is mainly drawn by hand, with the addition of digital paintings, few 3D renderings, and photographs of models. The images are fantastic.
There are of course the Black Forest, or the Kingdom of the Elves, the Bourg-du-Lac and other places. The designs are wonderful and really give a guideline for the atmosphere of the film.
The character designs relate to all newcomers as Beorn, Tauriel played by Evangeline Lilly, Legolas, many orcs, creatures like spiders and many secondary characters. Oddly, there are only a few pages on the dragon Smaug.
You will see many pencil sketches that are made by Alan Lee and John Howe, who are both responsible for the art direction and production design images. Other artists who have invested in production are also very talented and impressive compared to the quality of their work. It's really nice to see a good mix of images and color pencils.
This is therefore a beautiful gallery of the concepts of illustrations produced by Weta Workshop and studio 3 Foot 7. The sets and characters are made by Weta, and scenes, props and costumes by 3 Foot 7.
Comments are quite long. For each subject, be it a person or a place, there are several designers who give their opinion and a description of its construction. This is very interesting since lon really find many reviews of people working on lenvers decor.
Dailleurs, there will soon be a new book about the film, which will be titled The Hobbit: Chronicles of the desolation of Smaug: Capes and Swords (audios title is still not announced in French, the title may change). Very good.
Artbook This is really a very good investment. Highly recommended for fans of the film and concept art. There is much to see and read.
