The crime novel "The Ordinatueur" written by Christian Grenier and published by Rageot editor in Paris in 2004 is part of the "Black Hour" series. It contains 217 pages.
In the story, the young inspector Software is engaged in a new delicate case: The "Omnia 3", a hypermodern computer, could be responsible for a series of murders. In an act of bravery, she faces the death machine. Does too much risk?
The cover of the novel promises a captivating story. Normally I do not read detective novels, but the data information has aroused my curiosity. While waiting to read something on a deformed body, I began to read. Yet "The Ordinatueur" is a more modest book: It offers no blood or chase. Instead, logical thinking is highlighted.
One possible reason is that the book is intended primarily for young people. Ben, I can live without killing. All the same, I need the drama. Some parts are extended. I waited for the climax but I have not found.
That is why I am of the opinion that "Ordinatueur" lack of suspense. Reading a book of such a kind, one must have a creepy, think: "No, I can not stop until I finished" Reading "The Ordinatueur" I was too relaxed.
Still, there were things that I appreciated. I like how the author built the relationships between the characters. There the Inspector Germain, an old friend of Software, who helps in the investigation. Although it is like a father to Software, her colleague is jealous of Maxime Germain. Maxime is in love with Software and do not despair of trying to get his attention. These scenes are fun.
In addition, there are some allusions to Greek mythology and a French castle that exists in reality. Thanks to these circumstances, the story seems more probable.
So the question remains: Is "The Ordinatueur" worth reading? It depends on your expectations. If you want a quiet detective story with cool characters, take it and give it to your children. If you are expecting a "pageturner" keep looking. I have accepted "The Ordinatueur" but I do not feel the need to read the other toms in the series.
