The Secret of the inventor - Volume 1 - Rebellion (Paperback)

Customer Review

The steampunk books are scarce within the radius "young adult" bookstores. Lover of the genre, I was curious to discover this story, especially since I had enjoyed Nightshade of the author. Verdict? The secret of the inventor is even better! I fell in love with this novel and, from the first chapters. The secret of the inventor is a big page-turner. Loved the universe and characters created by Andrea Cremer!

And if England had crushed the revolt and prevented the creation of the United States .... Charlotte, sixteen, is the descendant of the American revolutionaries. With his brother Ash, she lives in the catacombs, away from the revolt which includes his parents. Daily Charlotte is not less dangerous. MachineS Outside teeming with the Empire and the teen regularly puts his life at stake. It is also during an outing that will rescue a young man with amnesia and offer security in the catacombs .
Everything will change when Charlotte will leave the underground where she has always lived to infiltrate the world beautiful English. His goal? Getting closer resistant to overthrow the British Empire and gain freedom for his people. The girl, accustomed to survive and not to worldliness will have to pass for a young heiress seeking husband.
During his mission, Charlotte discovered amazing information about his relatives, starting with Jack, her brother's best friend, which irritates as much as it attracts.

Steampunk enthusiasts can play with Andrea Cremer universe. Look protagonists, underwater Jules Verne and strange machinery, everything is there. Descriptions are effective, Andrea Cremer perfectly manages to transport us into his rich and fascinating world. I especially liked the passages in the floating city. We discover, as Charlotte, the city with wondering eyes.

Charlotte is a headstrong heroine, impulsive and outspoken. She was sixteen and although the trials have made mature, it is still much like a teenager, especially in his stories of heart. Charlotte and Jack get along like cats and dogs since they met but out of the catacombs, their relationship will change. Charlotte discovers that love and hate are strong emotions and very close to the point of confusing them. And if all this animosity actually served to hide his true feelings?
I fell for Jack, this is my favorite character in the novel. At first glance, it seems mocking player but his personality is more complex than that. Along with Charlotte, we will discover a part of his past and thus better understand his character. Jack has not yet fully revealed and it is always surrounded by a lot of mysteries although Grave remains the most enigmatic of all ...
Grave is the young amnesiac man saved by Charlotte. Because he forgot his name, it was found in him in connection with the sentence he continues to say "the situation is serious." Who is he? Where is he from? Is it a friend or foe ... resistant? Charlotte will protect against distrust and fear of others. She knows he is not dangerous despite his superhuman strength ...

The secret of the inventor is full of heroes. Although Meg Ash or are secondary characters, they remain no less important and very present throughout history. Ash, the leader of the catacombs has an interesting personality. Moreover, he loves his sister so that struggles to find a balance between protection and confidence.

Andrea Cremer is a talented author. In my reading, I constantly pay attention to three things: the universe, characters and style. The author has neglected nothing. His world is amazing, its protagonists are numerous but all developed and style we totally wins. I often tend to prefer the "I" in literature "young adult" but even if the author uses the third person singular, the view remains solely focused on internal and Charlotte. The teenager did we "tells" his story not sure, but his thoughts and emotions so precisely described that has no difficulty imagining in his place.

I prefer not to say too much to let you discover the pleasure of this book that I loved so much. The secret of the inventor passed to a heart stroke the hair and if the quality goes crescendo, the next book may be one. Fan of steampunk or neophyte like that, do not hesitate, this novel is a true gem!

A very good read!
