As to his work, one could guess that there was another Stephen King, a writer interested in the United States of his childhood, for a sweet scent of nostalgia. Take "It", one of his classics: the novel is full of flashbacks devoted to fantastic escapades of a group of kids. And the most glaring example is the new "The Body" (from the collection "Different Seasons") which is a tribute to America and 50-60 years at a time and now bygone youth.
"Hearts in Atlantis" fits perfectly into the nostalgic vein of the author. The book is presented concretely in the form of five new very varied sizes and at first independent view.
"1960 - Low rise Crapules yellow coat" allows us to follow the adventures of young Bobbie Garfield. This little boy lives with an overbearing mother (following the death of his father) and his life will change dramatically when everything will befriend a mysterious old man.
In "1966 - Hunting-Hearts in Atlantis", we follow the lives of Peter in a student internship, more concerned about playing cards to succeed in school. Knowing that those who do not décrocheront their scholarship will probably end up in Vietnam.
Willie Shearman is a man disturbed since daily disctinctes endorses three figures, including that of a beggar. You will discover a typical day in "1983 - Willie blind".
Sullivan is a veteran of Vietnam who returns from a veterans meeting when suddenly one of a multitude of objects fall from the sky. What is the past Sully? To be continued in "1999 - Why we were in Vietnam."
Finally, "1999 - As fall heavenly shades of night" concluded the book and loop outstanding left intrigues.
King's book is no exception to a simple rule: a collection of short stories, there are necessarily good and less good. Sold as a novel (after hedging), the book consists of these new cleverly patched to form a coherent whole. Because through the different stories, recounting the journey of two young children presented in the first news. But it still feels tinkering, and it is said by the time that the links are artificial. Pirec, the first news in question can be fully understood only if one has read the Dark Tower cycle, a titanic saga by Stephen King. If this is not your case, nothing incomprehensible but you'll miss out on some allusions.
If they disregard these concerns, the book is read with great pleasure, for as usual with this author, the emphasis quickly the characters and their fate. So that through a new, one watches information about the two main characters.
"Hearts in Atlantis" is trying to convey to the reader a piece of an era, that of the 60s, and it shows a feeling of nostalgia, perhaps even more important than in other King novels. A refreshing and novel apart in the dark biography of King.
