The 500 is probably only measurably louder than the 250cc. I for one can not tell the difference. If I really wanted to find I had once only test with the 250cc and once with the 500. But as I always need both at the same time, I've saved me.

In my Lian Li Big Tower are two separate drive cages, each with 4 disk bays. Pro drive cage a slowly rotating 12cm case fan is responsible for cooling respectively. After these 500 Raptor now also replaced the second of my three Seagate, I watched an interesting change in the temperatures in the lower drive cage. Now in the lower cage so I have a 250 Raptor, a 500 Raptor, one of the old Seagate and Samsung SSD. According AIDA 64 were now the temperatures of all boards - including the SSD - very low. Almost too low, because at least conventional plates like hypothermia just as overheating. As ideal applies a temperature range between 30 ° and 40 °. So I disabled - about my Big Tower built-in fan control - test as the fan of the lower cage. The top is equipped with plates and so the upper front fan is primarily used to supply sufficient fresh air of the graphics card. Even after several hours of intensive disk utilization were the temperatures of all boards in the green zone. The cooling solution of Velociraptors is so so good, that is quite sufficient already the train rear 2 case fans. By replacing two of Seagate's by two Raptors heat-development has a total removed, whereby one of the 4 case fans now was completely unnecessary.

As expected, the value increased for the transmission rate of something, see pictures. The access time but also, even if only measurable. On the 500 I have copied my games and my VM partition partition. In the games, it depends heavily on the game itself from how much faster the now invites. In Far Cry 3 for example there are only a few seconds to my old Seagate. In STALKER: Call of Pripyat is already apparent. Took the load of a particular game object with my Seagate still 1:27 minutes, so the same score with the Raptor is loaded in 00:38 minutes. But most benefit my countless VMs (virtual machines) of the Raptor, this boot noticeably faster and are more agile even after booting a lot.

Just great! Cheap of exchange my Seagate was the Raptors now, but I do not regret a single penny of it. Whether I probably still the 1000s ... ;-)
