This well-argued book allowed me to know a little better the Vikings. The plan is based on two parts: history and civilization. The book shines especially by his scientific rigor, it separates out the true facts of the legends based on archeology, linguistics and quantity of writings. Régis Boyer is honest about the gray areas that remain, and takes pains to emphasize what concerns his personal opinions when consensus does not exist.
However, not being a historian sharpened, I sometimes found the long time when he explains the differences between poetry and skaldic Eddie poetry. But no matter: everything is clear and well written. For the best of science and misfortune of the myth, the romantic bias is avoided.
