Brother DCP-195C Inkjet Multifunction device (printer, copier, scanner, USB 2.0) (Personal Computers)

Customer Review

In my view, and as many excessive printer users will agree with me well, printers follow-up costs are to the acquisition, the only thing that matters in a printer. And just the Brother makes consumers here much simpler than HP and Epson, the experiments with the most sophisticated tricks to force consumers to use their overpriced cartridges.

The treatment of choice of other companies to ensure the purchase of original cartridges is a tiny chip on the cartridge. This seems unremarkable at first glance, totally ignorant could even assume the chip on cartridges have a meaningful function. This is not like that. The chip is usually only noted how much the cartridge has been already used. This occurs not about the actual contents in the cartridge, but the count of printing operations. After a certain amount of printing operations of the chip then says simply, the cartridge is empty. Filling would bring nothing, because the chip prevents further use of the cartridge. By incorporating such chips in complex possible Hight Tech, difficult to even third party to recreate the cartridges. While there are quite cheap cartridges with replica chips, but they are often not recognized by the printer and may, in most cases practically be printed with them no pixels.

This short excursion had to do with the product once nothing, but I think was necessary. The cartridges for this printer do not have a chip. Ever that is in most if not all Brother printers the case. This both the use of cheap cartridges and refilling of cartridges is incredibly relieved. The fact that the chip does not need to be rebuilt, also producing cheaper replacement cartridges is associated with less cost and it also gets consumers clearly noticeable. For the present, there are very cheap printer cartridges, which are well received by the printer.

A few disadvantages there are quite, but is easy to overlook this when you see the savings in printing costs on the other side. The paper supply, I find not very big (100 sheets) and the construction of the printer does not look necessarily from reassuring. The HP Officejet 6000 as can be introduced directly into the printer (without drawer) the leaves. There also looks really absolutely stable and the paper tray to fit 250 sheets. The scale black cartridge when Officejet 6000 is very decent. The cartridges come two-thirds filled. If you fill it before use yet full on, you come to the 1200 pages that are a promise with a black 920XL cartridge. However, the chips in play and thus the disadvantages already described above.

I can absolutely ignore the critiques given the price, however. Because the bottom line is the Brother impresses with its low printing costs. Above all, the refilling of cartridges is much easier than many people think (especially with Brother).

In my review I am very digressed. However, printing costs are a major and important issue in my view. And in other reviews ... I found (not just here) discussed far too little.

Something I have to complain about even photo printing, I have just tested. Here the Officejet 6000 from HP is still way ahead of. However, the results of the Brother are not just devastating. When printing some fine adjustments are possible and on the basis of these can be still a lot to iron out. Kindly Brother had the printer a few pages enclosed by its photo paper. The size is A6, the strength of 260g / m² and the thickness of 0.256 mm. I just printed on four sides (I think there were so six pages of photo paper here and I just screwed up two of them). A friend of mine had yesterday times times brought an A4 photo page and has been well-drawn and printed by the printer. The printer seems therefore to have photo paper with less of a problem, as I had feared.

Supplement on 24.11.2010:

As I discovered today, the speed of the printer in the transmission of data from PC to the printer but can be a real disaster. I do not mean the time it takes for the printer during active printing. This is already relatively long, it is possible, however, endure. Until it is allerdigns extent that the printer starts printing at all, but it may take minutes for some documents.

Recently I had some printed a 31-page PowerPoint presentation with 6 slides per page. It took several minutes for the printer started times. I would have no longer at anticipated that there still is something before the printer then stirred.

Just at that moment I print a 74-page PDF document and I want to print it. For my printer has not yet begun and there are already so far gone 20 minutes. Will there still be printed, I add it here. Very annoying when you just want to quickly print what times. The printer is definitely not for an anteroom where the boss says again: "It prints just quickly X from.". Because at least "fast" it is then can not go.

Although My laptop is several years old, but definitely not responsible for the speed. For my OfficeT 6000 from HP, who worked previously with the same laptop, did the same printing performance in about one-tenth or hundredth time.

If anyone knows an inkjet printer from Brother, which prints more quickly, he may mention it in a comment to my review so times. Many Brother printers are operated with the same cartridges as this. What saves in this type of cartridge in the follow-up costs (= printing costs), is incredible. At first I used cheap cartridges before I resorted to so-called Easy-refill cartridges. There are Easy-refill cartridges with different capacities. I have what worried me the swallow 50 ml in black and every color. To top up you need as only a rubber stopper pull out by hand, incorporate ink and can put the plug back on it.

Given the cost of printing, I find the speed annoying. Without this deficiency and otherwise more fully developed could sell the printer in my opinion, for three times the price.
